Default Unwanted deer hide

Hi I'm looking for someone who has no use for the deer hide of the animal they have harvested. I'm looking to make some Rawhide as I am interested in braiding it. I live in Calgary however I don't mind driving a little. Thanks in advance guys!

Welcome to the forums.

I am not in your area but might I suggest that you also contact local elk farmers. A couple of years ago an elk farmer I met offered me quite a few hides for free when he culled some cows from his herd. There may be other farmers that would have some available.

I'm sure you will get a few hides offered to you from this site too.

Might not want to take any salted hides or salt any hides that you want to use for rawhide. Any salt will help preserve the hide and is hard to get good quality rawhide without removing every single grain of salt. It starts tanning the hide and it's tough to get it dried out completely. Your rawhide will have a soft leathery dull feel and be weak instead of a gold clear look. Just my two cents from what I have learned preparing hides and braiding. Deer, horse, herefords, black angus and jerseys make some of the best rawhide. Never tried elk

Default Deer Hide in Abundance

I'm in Calgary and have several deer hides in my freezer. You are welcome to them. Would you be able to make me some rawhide too?
I'll send you a PM.
