Default Bow kill shot distance???

What is you average Bow kill shot distance and what is your longest kill shot distance?

Be honest!!!

I practice up to 80-100yds but have never taken that kill shot yet at this distance.

x2, except for the apostrophes.

I'm waiting to hear from the guy who took a 60" bull moose at 400 yds, in a blizzard, with a field point.... You all know he's out there.

Longbow that pulls 65#@28", cedar arrows, two blade broadheads. Closest shot was 5 yards at a bull moose, longest shot was 40 yards at a bull moose. Both kill shots so they're not just shots taken

If I were to average all of my bow kills, I would say 18-25 yards.

p.s.................response is not for me to up my post count!!!

That was me and it wasn`t with a bow.It was only 40 feet(straight down) and I leapt out of a tree with a spear. When I got out of the hospital my buddy said it only went 35 yards.Amazing how much damage can happen in 8 seconds.Ask any bull rider.

I think my longest shot was 60 yards. That was lucky and before I started using my head. I practiced at 30 and 40 yards and I think most all of my shots were between 20 and 30 yards. IMHO shots in the field have too many variables to deal with so 20 and 30 yds decrease the chances these variables will affect your shooting.

I don't believe a guy that thinks velvet is normally gone in mid july has ever hunted anything with a bow.....

I also don't understand how the same guy can spend that much time on this forum and miss the thread asking the same thing....

The bucks are only in velvet because they are cold, keeps em warm!

15-20 yards kill shots at real deer

50 yards with new set up at target deer, the odd arrow hits the back drop completely missing the target...must be a manufacturer quality control issue for a arrow to wonder off like that...

30-40 Yards depending on the conditions

But I just ordered my new huskemaw long range archery scope! So now I will be able to shoot animals out to 150 yards no problem! And with very little practice I might add lol

+1 for the post count contest

Average with my compound is 15 to 25.

Average with recurve and longbow is 5 to 10.

Longest Kill shot was with my compound. It was 68 yards, but not something I would repeat on purpose.

I know shots on Pronghorn and Mule Deer can routinely be in the 40 to 70 yard range. However, I would need significantly more practice at those distances to be proficient and confident.

I am deadly out to 30 yards with compound, recurve, and longbow, but my prefferred distance is between 5 to 15 yards on all big game.

Anyway that's just me.

OK ..I will start that mayhem... I shot my 327 bull elk last year at ........95 yards...I guesstimated 96yds..my buddy range finder-ed it at 95 yds...

Here is the thing thou...we walk 6 miles in ..hunt the morning and shoot all the way back to camp if slow...I pick a branch etc...he picks one...all the way back to camp

We shot ten to 150 yards for fun all the way back to camp...the morning before I was in the exact spot and shot at a burn pile at 100 yards..I hit it dead on.the bull the next day stood in front of that pile..I stood at the exact spot as the morning before...perfect lung shot...

longest previous was a moose at 50 and 55 yards both shots were two inches apart in the boiler room...
Practice long... hit long..aim small hit small..
Average kill shots are 10 to 30 yards...

tree stand set ups are all 20 yards or closer. Killed a mule deer once at 76 yards.

Default average shot kill distance

I would say that the average distance for my kill shots would be 40 yds.
normally all my white tail are 30yds or less, mulies for the last 4 years have been within 50 to 60 yards (all ranged and eating prior to shot) and elk at 20 yards.

I struggle with the elk as it just happens so fast with little time to range.... continuing to practice range estimation for these wonderful animals.

Default This is very close

This YouTube video may have been posted on here once upon a time a long time ago but I am amazed how close this giant bull came to him. He definitely had a huge adrenaline rush I bet.
