Default black mold in toilet

How to get rid of it and manage it?

Seems to come back every two weeks.

Bleach?
Borax?
Other?

Diabetic in home on lots of different meds. Someone said, that could be it but it's not just one bathroom toilet, so I think not.

We've dropped in the blue water things but was only minimal helpful.

Thanks

Sounds to me like other issues are at play if you are getting black mold in your toilet.

Check the black flapper valve that shuts and keeps the water in the tank. They can get nasty and give off black gunk.

Mold feeds on ammonia.

Don't use bleach...it will wipe it clean and it will come back twice as bad.

Shut off the water, wipe it dry. Then spray it with Moldcontrol. I dealt with mold a fair bit, as a maintenance tech. This stuff kills the mold. You might have to give the whole room a wipe down too.

I've never had a service call specifically about mild in fixtures but some manufacturers do offer premium porcelain glaze options that are supposed to inhibit that kind of thing as well as reduce 'marking'. I think they don't ad the word 'skid' in front of that just to be slightly classier. Toto and American Standard both offer such options, perhaps others too.

Had black mold in the sink and tub drain, my plumber neighbor said use vinegar and baking soda. Man did it ever work. Cheap fix, now I do all drains once a month.

Are you saying don't use ammonia or don't use bleach?

Well what ever you do don't mix ammonia and bleach!

I was told that neither are effective against mold.

Rereading my post now and i see where you're coming from, i could have been clearer.

Good point, you don't want to mix those two.

I'm guessing the diabetic is using invocana. It causes massive amounts of sugar to come out with the urine which feeds the black scum. I put about 3 cups of bleach in the tank when its filling and flush it real slow then let it sit till morning. The mold usually grows inside the flush holes and comes out in chunks. Do that once a month and it stays clean.
