Default Yamaha Grizzly 700 overheat

2007 Grizzly, like every other Grizzly ever manufactured seems they all come out of the box operating at high temperatures. An issue that seems Yamaha gives zero sh ts about. Very annoying!
Anyone find a decent solution other than a rad relocate? Replace with an aftermarket radiator?

Thanks,

problem I had with my 2005 yama kodiak was the motor would get hot and then the gas tank would start boiling. I had gas and fumes coming out of the vent hose like crazy
so I cut some more holes in the cowling in the gas tank area and that seems to have solved the problem
I have seen other guys running with the side covers off below the gas tank

I just leave the side cowling off completely. Tried putting holes in it first but wasn't enough.
As you say.......annoying......but I will say my 700 has been a tough workhorse.

X2

Hunting trips in the fall were a lot warmer with these off too.

I kept my rad super clean and I always added a small bottle of coolant additive. The same kind of additive the stock cars used Purple Ice etc..... I found the additives did make a difference.

Default 660 tank boiling

The 660 tank boiling issue is well known, on mine I drilled holes in the side covers and added a smallish 12v fan blowing right at the head, seemed to do the trick; fan was wired off the ignition and ran whenever the engine was on.

The overheating issue for 660s and 700s happens when the engine is worked hard and the rig is moving slow...like when you are stuck or grinding thru heavy skeg. I only run in the fall and try to hit every puddle I see so the spray can cool the engine (water is an outstanding heat sink).

Overheat is probably my only real complaint on the rig...stator burnout on the early 700 was common as well. I would avoid rad relocate as it makes resale tough (snorkel does the same)

Have you recently drained the rad or had a hose off? I got an 07 too and the bottom hose came off when I was rooting thru some crazy rough stuff. I think its an airlock thing. Took all my plastic off to fill it proper and it took about three more top-ups till it was finally "full". Have to fill thru the actual radiator, not the reservoir. Otherwise mine was good. All that power is gonna generate some heat. They have their quirks but hands down the best quad ever built. I use mine for work.in 3 ft of snow or plus 30 Temps. Push the button and go to work.

Air cleaner too. Forgot to mention that. That could be the problem too.

As "riden" said, I also used the purple ice. Put it in my son's 450 Kawasaki. Made a big diff in both machines. We both road em hard. Also pulled the covers off the 700 and always cleaned rad and air cleaner. My 700 was awesome.

Wire your cooling fan through an override switch, then you can turn fan on before it gets to warm especially when moving slow on trails and not enough airflow through rad and motor.

Just a suggestion, you might not drive your ATV like you are on a race track, slow down unit will not overheat.

My 2007 Grizzly 700 had an issue with overheating, when a plug comnection for the fan developed corrosion, and the fan became intermittent. I cleaned the connections, applied dielectric grease, and no more issues. Friends had issues, but they had huge tires on, and were constantly seeing who could go through the most mud.

I have 2021 700 SE Grizz, they still run hot but seem to have solved any boiling of the fuel issues. From the Grizz forum I hang on, a lot of guys run a EHS Tuner kit. Supposed to drop the temps noticeably.

Different formulations of Engine Ice that are Canada compatible.
But yes - that blue stuff wouldn't make it in any of my machines.
The orange or yellow stuff is good to -40
