Default Any ideas on what this is?????

My neighbor has this large web in his cherry tree. Inside the cocoon type thing is full of light colored caterpillars. I have never seen anything like this before.
Anyone have any ideas on what this is????

They wouldn’t do any damage to the tree, really, beyond eating the leafs. It is also pretty easy to get rid of them. The “bravest” among us can simply remove the nasty stuff by hand. Others can simply take a broomstick or something else alike that will reach them and roll it around the stick.

Edit: here is an example of how: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=diR1oG3ntig

Ya, they are not tent caterpillars. I definitely know what they are.
I think fishnguy is 100% correct. Reading up on fall webworms, I think that is what they are.

Cool. Learned another new thing.

I don’t know. If I had a tiger torch…and wasn’t worried about killing the tree I’d cut the branch down and have a BBQ.
