Talking Puppy Breath

As some know I have looking hard for a male wolf hybrid to welcome into our lives.
Three years have wandered by since I lost The Boogyman.
Still miss him desperately even after all that time.
But I simply know that a new pup will help alleviate that to some extent.

This week one of my buddies informed me he knew of a wolf hybrid litter IN TOWN!
I had to go and look obviously.
Unfortunately the 2 males were spoken for and they have no plans for any more litters down the road.

One of the gals caught my eye though, and certainly warmed right up to me...
Hmmm...

Took my Lady to look at them, and when the single tear of joy ran down her cheek when she picked the one I liked up, I knew I was doomed. They were asking 5 bills, but upon hearing our background immediately dropped that to 3 saying "better to have a great home than a little extra coin!"

The 7 week old Gal is simply gorgeous!

Happy Happy Happy!!

The dad is 1/2 Island Wolf & 1/2 Australian Shepherd

The mom is 1/2 Timber Wolf & 1/2 Alaskan Husky

It is uncanny just how close the mom's face is to that of our 12+ year old Kimmiq.
They could be sisters...

Many of my buddies are saying we are nuts for doing this at this stage of our lives.

I say it keeps US young!

And... I am still hunting for the right male...

Picking her this afternoon as we're puppy proofing the house today.

Interesting & fun times ahead...

Cheers,
Nog

If looking in the future there are a few fellas that breed wolf hybrids out of the Pas, MB.
Sled dog crowd breeding to local wolf population.

Attended the Trapper's Festival and ran into some nice looking pups from some of their breedings.

I believe the gentleman's name was Horst Wagner who had owned the pups I had seen.

Was a couple years back last I attended.

More than interested!
Many Thanks!
I will try to look them up for a male in the spring as I don't want to train 2 at once!

Cheers!

Off to a rather promising start!

Much to our surprise she only woke us up once overnight.

Kimmiq is still a little shy around her, but has accepted her.

Ila has definitely bonded with my wife - follows her constantly and must keep her in sight.

Does OK outside (never been before) but it will be a learning curve to understand that is where we do our business it seems.

Eating and behaving rather well expect she likes to test chew pretty much everything...

The madness has begun...

Cheers,
Nog

Enjoy as I'm pretty sure you will the puppy stages. They don't last long and could be a great fun time and learning curve for all. What a great looking pup and the mom and dad look fantastic. Nothing like puppy breath licks.

Few more pictures from today...

Her ears will stand up like both of her parents.

Kimmiq is a little apprehensive as she is uncertain just how to interact with one so small:

But they are figuring it out:

Back to the fun...

I got my first Wolf Hybrid (1/2 Timber, 1/2 Husky) well over 4 decades ago now.
They have an intelligence that is hard to fathom if you haven't been around one much.
Like the Einsteins of the canine world.
They are very loving, friendly, protective and more.

Certainly not for everyone, they need a LOT of experience in their companions. Their need for exercise, support and understanding runs very very deep, so they require a great deal of time and effort to bring out their best.

My Lady & I have now been living with, rearing and training Wolf Hybrids for over 40 years now.
Simply became our way of life...

Wouldn't have it any other way!

Cheers,
Nog

Upside down sleep:

Looks to me uncomfortable sleep:

Brought her down to the dungeon, and she immediately took over one of my old bookcases:

First day we've had her that my Lady wandered off to work in the early.

She left Ila on her bed in the living room sleeping.

That didn't last long and she made a beeline for the bedroom where she started to whine, then howl (amazing how much volume can come out of one so small!).

So, up and at 'em in the pitch dark - a first for me in a spell - most certainly not the last...

Cheers,
Nog

Anybody remember the old Chester & Spike cartoons from the Bugs Bunny show?

Definitely going on here now with Kimmiq & Ila!

What a cutie.

One of my dogs is the same way, under Mom's chair, under my desk when I'm working, sleeps in weird, seemly uncomfortable tight places, etc... must be something about being safe or something in the instinct.

Time for a few more pictures...

Ila has really warmed up to Kimmiq

And Kimmiq is returning the favour

Why sleep on your dog bed when Granny-Guns tail is available?

Growing like a weed!
We had forgotten about the Puppy Zoomies.
She has well reminded us!!

Ten Weeks Old Today & simply full of **** & vinegar!

Now at that awkward stage where her ears are trying to stand - at different rates of course:

And he has discovered the old basket of dog toys from our previous ones.
She loves them all!

And of course after the workout:

Fun Times!!

Growing like a weed!

Her legs are growing faster than her body at this point:

Told The Missuz we should have named her "Stilts"! LOL

She hops around on those long legs like some strange combination of a fox & a jackrabbit.
Hilarious to watch.
I'll try to grab some video of that before she outgrows it...

Cheers,
Nog

Giving the old dog fits at first no doubt, but, by the same token, she's likely loving it, something fun to do and no doubt, the tease is on, and the l'il guy is having a blast too. That is priceless to watch, especially if the ol girl has a bit of a deviant streak in teasing the youngster. And it also makes a pup far easier to train.

All of that and more!

It took Kimmiq a couple days as she was nervous due to Ila being so tiny.
Now, they play outside full on!
Kimmiq is acting like a pup again (very good for her at 12+!) and teaching the pup lots.

And you are Bang On as far as making the teaching go FAST!
Already housebroken.
Already sits & fetches on command.
Great start for just over 10 weeks!

Cheers,
Nog
