sub-zero overnights may win on keeping some ice but above-zero daytimes with wind doesn't make for good ice making.

I was there on Thursday and the ice was less than an inch thick at the dam.

Was there today, the ice is about 3-5" thick. However, it did a massive ice heave while everyone was all on the ice, I have never heard the ice so crazy loud and watching it spiderweb crack everywhere. I just managed to save all my gear before my hole I was about to fish got flooded in a over foot of water. The shelf is very unstable and it stretches for 2/3 of the middle of the dam. Be extremely careful on to the flooded part as it'll probably only have 1-2" of ice over 1 foot of water and then another 3-5" of very fractured ice.

Further out past the flooded part it is a good solid 4-6" of ice. Didn't get a lot of time to fish as the shelf kept heaving and flooding the area I was at. It's extremely murky and only about 2-3 feet of visibility. Did see a few schools of whites on the camera go by but was skunked. Nice day to be out though.

I wouldn't say that all the ice is unsafe, many others have been on ice already for a few weeks. Always important to know your limitations, be prepared and understand the conditions at all times of the year.

A group of guys fished the dam today from an aluminum boat so that if the ice broke they would float. Silliest thing I have seen. The ice was good at the launch.

How is fishing at the launch? I've never tried and was thinking that I should some day.

Problem is, is that they drilled the hole in the bottom of the aluminum boat.
