Default Questions about how do you get there.

(all questions are about across the entire season).
How many will be using snowmobiles ?
How many will be using trucks ?
How many will be walking out ?

Depends on the time of year, lake and ice conditions:

Up until X-Mas - most likely walking out.
Between X-Mas and mid-Jan (depending on snow and temp) - most likely snowmobile.
After the big freeze and good ice - truck.
Once the ice starts to deteriorate - back to the snowmobile.
And finally, when the ice is rotting and still want to push for a late season fish - back to walking.

Thanks for the replies, I don't want people to name the places they go, simply
how the approach it.

This info. may be a help to people ice fishing who are new to the sport.
(including me).

Be safe, have fun.

Perhaps check out the first sticky on this forum, "Looking for fishing partner, ride, company, etc." it may help you get out more, with over 1500 posts, something to consider.

One word of caution before replying here...

It is possible that other people who make things like tents, sleds,
cook stoves, augers, snowmobiles, trucks, cleats etc. May just be
very interested in just how many really do use these things.

Just a thought.

May make the inventors think a bit. Maybe?
What do we want ? What do we need ? What would be better?

Just DO NOT advertise your favorite spot and turn it into grand central.
Ok ?

P.S.
If the eggheads could make a solar powered auger/cook stove/heater combo
unit that weighed in at like 3 or 4 lbs. That would be cool.
(the auger would have to cut an 9" dia. hole by 24" deep min. before killing
the battery).

Drive to gull. Then my two feet and a heartbeat get me to where I fish.

Dom, post up some pics, of what you caught this summer.
Fly fish by any chance? I used to, long time ago.
For crying out loaud here have to be PC correct..
Yes I fished with rubber worms and lures and plugs for bass too.
Flys were for trout.

One evening, after fishing for bass in Mountain Lake the whole day
with my wife, we had dinner at a bar overlooking the lake and watched
the sun set. As our dinner was served we both saw a Musky suck in
(inhale) a mallard hen being presuded by a drake.

I said "Honey, I think we need a bigger bait.".
She about chocked on her salad.
Then said "Honey, I think we need a bigger boat."

True storey, thanks for reminding me Dom.

Always walk. Not brave enough to drive on: since my paycheck depends on my truck. Don't own a snowmobile.

How well does a quad perform on a frozen lake? I don't have a sled. I got mud bugs on right now but am looking into studding up some old crappy rubber. Thought about chains too but better things to spend cash on right now.

You can buy screw in studs for dirt bikes. Buy a box and stud up your quad.

I will always pull out the sleds or pops argo if the snow conditions are minimal. I have a big magnum sleigh so lots of gear fits and sleds make it a very mobile way to go.

i walk on until ice is foot and half then i drive on. i'll never forget the first time driving on the ice with my pop-in-law, hearing the ice pop under the truck, scared the poop out of me, now it don't bother me so much.

I prefer to walk on most of the time. Only when I hit the bigger lakes later in the season do I take the truck on.
