Caught 4 under size and 1 over in 1.5 hrs lost one oversize as-well. So it wasn't too slow in French Bay

Was out on Boxing day first thing in the morning. Took me longer to punch my hole, set up my tent and get the heater going than it did to actually fish. Dropped jig down, 30 ft under ice, wammo...15 lber (hooked deep and bleeding otherwise I would have stuck around). Thought it was funny when guys were just setting up I was leaving...10 inches of ice a little farther out.

Was out today, first time on the lake. Left home at 3am and boy was it worth it! Best day of fishing I've had on an Alberta lake to date. Non stop action all day. After the great day of fishing. Karma got the better of us and something on the cv broke apart and cut our brake cable. After 4 hours of dealing with that finally on the way home... What a day!

hey wolf....when you going out again?....I vist cold lake once or twice a month, would'nt mind dropping a line with someone if they don't mind

Here is a thought, lets put a slot size on white tail deer!
after you shot one, weight it, if it does not hit between 250 and 275 lbs, put it back! LOL
C&R , slot sizes, are a joke. If you don't want fish taken, CLOSE the lake.
Rapalaman
The problem isent slot sizes or c&r they are there for a good reason and its simple if your allowed to take fish of any size then the smaller easy bitting fish are the first to be devoured!! befor they have a chance to breed or even hit maturity for that matter!
You see its not like the southern part of the continant where fish matrue fast and die soon of old age up here in the northern part of the world fish, especialy lakers in deep cold water live longer then most men do and do not mature until they are 6 to 9 years of age.
Having a slot size at least makes sure that those fish stay in the water and are givin a chance to breed ( as long as they are handeld properly)
The other major problem is the simple fact that Alberta has three times as many people as it does lakes unlike saskamatoonawin or manitoba where the lakes out number the people 10 to one we dont have a choice our lakes with this kind of pressure and no regulations or slot size and there fished so hard it cant recover and the fishery collapses.

Bringing a lake trout up too fast is not a issue... If you have a sonar im sure you have watched them chase cisco, or your hook, ive seen them swim from over 100ft to 10 ft in mere seconds, faster than i could reel in, to argue that is saying a trout is willing to harm himself just for a meal...C & R doesnt work? I fish alot of c&r rivers... The proof is right in front of you. When i catch large mature fish with old scars on their mouths... Seems to work! Sure there is a small amount that might die... Dont like it, dont fish..

I went last weekend with some buddies and we had a good day. We caught one about 12 lbs and several undersize fish, all fish including the keeper were released. The way the limit works seems strange to me. Why not have a slot limit instead, say allowed to keep one 50-65 cm and have the trophy fish that have lived 10+ years keep spawning? We saw several large trout caught and kept.
