I was hoping to put up a good group pic for my .243 tonight but the RCMP were doing some kind of shoot at our range near Rocky this evening and I could not do the quick shoot I wanted to.
I was out the other day and I could not get the tight clover leaf type groups I shot the last time with it. I talked to a friend who owns a couple Rem. 788s and he said somthing that I should have known but hadn't considered. He said once in awhile one of his 788s stops producing. He always gives the barrel/forend the $5.00 bill test. Running the bill between barrel and stock from the front on in. Well my bill stuck about 2 inches down, so I pulled the barrel/action out of the stock and put a bit of fine sandpaper on my finger into the barrel channel of the stock. Rubbed out the "spot" and put the barrel back and tightened the action screws good. The bill slides (tight) all the way to the barrel band. This evening I was going to put up the lasr target I shoot two days ago and print three fresh holes in it to see if the sandpaper treatment had tightened the group.
Maybe tomorrow.
My daughter was drawn for Trophy Antelope and I want her gun shooting "well".
