Seems pointless, they already have a tazer, spray and a stick for less lethal. If a firearm is out and being pointed, to me, it should be only for one reason.

Totally agree.
If a cop has to legitimately resort to his sidearm, I would imagine his life is in danger...at that point I want the 'bad guy' done. Down permanently.
