Question Toilet Paper in The Bow?

Seriously. I hope it is not... But is that toilet paper always getting stuck to my hook when fishing The Bow near Southland Park?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Didymosphenia_geminata

Which is (one of ) the reason(s) why people need to be cleaning their wading boots (even rubber soles) and waders (with bleach) when moving from one stream/river to another!!

Its called Didymo Alge, an invasive alge which isn't toxic.

from Wiki

Preventing further spread:

Check: Before leaving the river, remove all obvious clumps of algae and look for hidden clumps. Leave them at the site. If you find clumps later don't wash them down the drain, treat them with the approved methods below, dry them and soak them in bleach for at least 4 hours.

Clean: Soak and scrub all items for at least one minute in either hot (60°C) water, a 2% solution of household bleach, antiseptic hand cleaner, or dishwashing detergent.

Dry: If cleaning is not practical (e.g. livestock, pets), after the item is completely dry wait an additional 48 hours before contact or use in any other waterway.

it has spread along a lot of sections of the bow especially that one and does look like toilet paper.

It's not toilet paper - it's partially broken down paper from slobs who throw away wrappers, flyers, newspapers, emails, bills, snot rags, diapers etc.
It's in all sections of the river.
It's much worse after a windy day when all the crap gets blown into the water.

No, it is not garbage or dissolved paper. Like mentioned before, it's Didymo (rock snot). Look it up. Heck, links are even posted for you. Harmless in the fact it is non-toxic, but it carpets the river and smothers everything. Big problem and its spreading.

And you've never pulled up any rock snot covering paper that sits on on the bottom of the river?
There quite a bit of paper on the bottom and at times a lot more suspended in the river.
I've fished the Bow many times in late summer and early fall when the water is low and clear. Sometimes after a few windy days there's so much paper suspended in the river it can be impossible to fish.
Stand on the Fort Calgary footbridge or the Zoo bridge sometime and watch it all go by. Lots of small stuff - an inch or two long.

I have had toilet paper pack onto my line and waders down at Hermitage Park on the North Sask. R.

That was a gross day.

it also dries on the rocks during low water, then with higher flows or a raise in water speed or depth is peels off and floats.

Blue Ribbon Bow:

That would be a good name for a new brand of toilet paper.
