Default Too big of a boat for police outpost?

Making a trip next week down south. Planning on doing some camping and hitting up Chin, St Mary's and Police Outpost.

Friend is towing his 16.5 Tracker behind the motorhome. Having never been to police outpost, is this too big of a boat on this water. I know the max speed is 12km and I suspect we would only be using the elec trolling.

I just dont want to show up and get lynched by all the fly guys in their float tubes. Obviously I want to be respectful, and want to stay well clear of them given this is a small lake....

Any comments? Do people launch larger boats in police?

I have fished it several times with my 16ft Crestliner.

It is something you always have to be in control of your boat. I have always fished it during the week when there is little if any belly boaters.

The wind is a big factor and if you are fishing solo like I usually do you spend most your time controling the boat, then if a big bow does hit you can have some problems.

As to 12 KPH that is waaayy to fast for that lake. I don't even run my big motor, just the kicker.

Fished it for years and never had a problem with other fisherman yet. It is a chore on windy days with a bigger boat but on calm day there is no place better.

Good Luck

Forgot to mention you may want to give Payne a try.

It is straight west of Cardston l K west and 3 so. of Mountain View

It is big enough you can handle yourself in the wind. Also beware of the wind at ST Maries and Chin.

I had my 16.5' alumacraft in Police 2 weeks ago. I always run my big boat in there and just follow the speed limits and just use the big motor for getting to a spot and then run the bow mount to cruise around and chuck flies.

I have heard that chin is really low right now and may not be able to get a boat in at the launch.

I will be heading out there on Tuesday for opening day with my boat and can post on how it is when I get home that night.

St.Mary should be good to go but I haven't been out that way for awhile. I will probably do a trip or 2 out there next week to see how it is fishing.

Good luck on your trip and post some pics if you get into anything decent size.

Ridge and jenson are both in that area along with mami (payne) which was already mentioned.

All those lakes are boat worthy.

What days are you planning on coming down this way?

All the walleye lakes you mentioned aren't opened until May 8th so hopefully it is on or after that day if you plan on fishing for walleyes.
