Default The Stupid Chronicles: YEG Electric Bus Edition

In this Edition- Counselors who are totally out of touch and beyond moronic!!!

These 13 idiots are completely hopeless, and should be jobless.
Instead, they think they're pioneers, buying a bunch of electric buses that fall far short of their claims.

Now for the real shocker.....the company is bankrupt and YEG councillors want our money back!
Crazy, right?

"At least one city councillor isn't sure how much of that money will be recouped.

"Being an unsecured creditor, I know we're way behind any secured creditors. So I think anything that we can get out of it will be a bonus," Ward Sspomitapi Coun. Jo-Anne Wright said Tuesday.

Wright says the situation won't deter the city from exploring new technologies.

"If we didn't try with the electric buses, we wouldn't have known. And as new technologies become available, I do think that we have to be open to trying those new technologies."

It's a sentiment shared by Ward O-day'min Coun. Anne Stevenson.

"I think the worst outcome would be that we don't take risks in the future, that we don't explore new technologies that could have huge benefits for Edmontonians," Stevenson said.

"I think for me it's really looking at different ways that we can mitigate financial risks when we are trying something new.""

The clowns don't seem to realize, that this will cost the taxpayers over $80 million.

Weird.
My town didn't try with the electric busses, yet they still know how it worked out.
Weirder still, none of those councilors believed in these busses enough to invest their own money.

It is weird.
I would have thought at least one of them would have seen the insolvent company as a diamond in the rough and bought it up.
Guess not.

So, we can look forward to more boondoggles at our expense.

I would also love to be in the room to hear their discussions among themselves. It’s like these people are from another planet.

Think it better to wait, let other places try it, there will be lots of places. Watch what works and what doesn't before splurging millions on a whim just to be woke.

In the meantime buy some sensible buses, keep them clean, maintain them, clear the junkies out of the transit system. They might get a few paying customers to ride the buses again.

Pretty easy to “try new technology” when it’s not your money. These people should all be held accountable and this needs to be remembered at election time.

I think I'll be trying a new council come election time. Anyone on council now should not be there next election.

And after a few years, all 20 will likely still be operational, and all 60 of the electric buses, will likely be sitting unusable, like most already are.

I can see the city of Edmonton wanting to try electric busses, they are woke and liberal and want to show the clown n Ottawa that they are on board with his agenda. However in an unproven environment one would think that maybe they would purchase 6 busses to run a trial on them, no they jump right into the deep end and buy 60, after all it's just tax payers money, what's 80 million, free money right.

Default Not their money.

Virtuesignaling with someone else’s $$. The Liberal NDP way…

I did not vote for any of these idiots. But they are happy to take my tax money.

Would love to see who got kickbacks from the manufacturer.

If they ran their homes the way they run the city they would be living in tents.
Maybe next election…..

I am really surprised they went with another company out of the blue since they had a few electric buss they were using from NewFlyer.
Were they lining someone else pocket or was the other company coming in with a lower price that they went with them.

For a moment, suspend disbelief and give everyone involved the benefit of the doubt. They want to try the shinning new technology, so they order 20 busses and install chargers for them. They put the busses into service and discover that they do not meet the spec. laid out in the contract. Why would they then order another another 40? That's the part that makes me go Whisky Tango Foxtrot.

Reinstating disbelief, did they bother to check references? With 1,300 claims against the company there must have been issues earlier.

A little news story about the buses. They have there place but not really feasible as the only mode of transport at the moment. It's to bad that these politicians can't be held accountable for the **** poor financial decisions they make. Make them liable.

Anyone know where Iveson is now?

Hmmm?
What's that you say?
He's in a giant house on a beach in California just down the street from the bus supplier you say?
And the house beside that one is his as well, bought by Tiger Calcium?
Shocking.

Spot on.

There's got to be awards for this level of stupidity.

And knowing how this city works these days and seeing the decline, my prediction is, Redmonton will step up and vote these idiots back in.

That is a pretty safe bet, people will complain, then vote for the same idiots.

I remember in 2020 he had a plan to end homelessness in Edmonton in 12 weeks. I remember hearing it on the radio a few times and Global also had a story on it. I guess the question should have been which 12 weeks? Every one forgot about it I guess during the bike lane planning

Let's not forget Donny boys bro inlaw was also the head of the biggest pedal bike group in the city. Must have bee a coincidence that we started getting bike lanes right after he became mayor.
