Default Kayaks and inflatables on specific lakes

I'm considering purchasing a fishing kayak or inflatable boat but was told that certain lakes have restrictions on them. What if I wanna add an electric motor? Who do I contact to find out? My preferred lakes at the moment are McGregor Reservoir, Sylvan Lake, Glenmore Reservoir, Gull Lake, Upper & Lower Kananaskis Lakes.

Look up the lake in the regs. They are very specific. If it says no motors then it means no motors. If it says electric motors only then it means electric motors only.

I have been using belly boats and pontoon boats for many years and have not come across any lakes that do not allow them. There may be one but I have not found it yet

When you say "regs" which regs are you referring to? I'm new to this

Motor and speed restrictions on some lakes yes.
But that’s not something that can be found in the regulations.
There is no such thing as a no belly boat or fishing kayak restriction & Very few water bodies have “no boats” period.

What is a belly boat? I was told that some lakes restrict "inflatables"?

A belly boat is that little inflatable fishing tube.

The Glenmore Reservoir does not allow inflatables or motors but all the other lakes that you've listed are fine.

Skip the inflatable. Get the yak. Those places all get wind and a kayak wont get blown around like an inflatable will. fighting wind in an inflatable sucks. Im also 90% percent sure glenmore dosent allow inflatables unless somethings changed

I appreciate your advice. I'm all ears right now. This is new to me. I have access to my son's Ascend 10T kayak. I've been concerned about the possibility of it tipping in rough waters and losing all my gear. I've been told to lash everything down in the event this ever occurs but it's still a consideration for me. I may purchase an inflatable such as the Intex Excursion K1 kayak or the Intex Mariner 4 but I don't see myself fishing with others much - I'm often fishing alone due to my work being shift workers hours. I appreciate all the input.

A good kayak is very stable and capable of more than many realize. Personally I have a 12ft hobbie compass and I have had no issues on the large lakes around the Edmonton area. My wife has the same kayak and she is a wuss. She has been comfortable fishing all the same lakes. Of course you common sense and yes we have everything attached to the kayak just in case. PFD is also wise

I also own a 16.5 kingfisher that I am now selling to my father because we prefer the simplicity of the kayaks

Something to remember is longer kayaks track nicer and are easier to propel

I vote for the yak as well. At least you can try the Ascend on the reservoir and see if you like it.
I have a Wilderness Recon I take down to the reservoir ~10 times per year. I live real close and enjoy the lack of motorized boats. I agree they are quite stable - I usually stand to fish from mine without issue. I've had a lady screaming at me to sit down from the reservoir bike path one time - I guess she was unaware they are built for that lol.
I take mine to the coast to fish for rockfish, ling and salmon. Even if the swell is up I would say it still feels comfortable - if you can handle the sea sickness...
