Default Coal Lakre Report

Well, yesterday I loaded up the canoe for some action down at Coal Lake. Made it down there and man what a beautiful day. Started off slow but I got into the pike (about 20 in all) with a five of diamonds a little larger then usual and using a fast retrieve. Along the eastern edge of the lake there's some good depth with some nice dropoffs. As for the northern boat launch it seemed to be working for boats up to about 15' in length, any bigger and you'll have challenges there. Anyways tight lines and see you out there, I'm usually in a red mad river canoe huffing and puffing

Did you see any full sized boats out there, not just aluminums? What sizes were the pike you were bringing in?
I believe i saw you there last summer

Even last year there were dunes right behind the launch from the jet boats that i would get hung up on and have to almost carry my boat out another 20 feet, so im wondering if its too shallow in the whole bay now that the water has gone down so much.
That is one of my fav lakes as it is so close, get off work, pick up the boat, launch and still get 4-5 hours in durring the week.
Any info would be awesome

Just wondering if the South launch is any better? Anyone know anything about that launch as that's the one I've used in the past coming up from Red Deer.

The guys at the north launch were mainly launching aluminums with one medium sized boat making it out. That whole end of the bay is so shallow that unless you have a canoe or aluminum I'd avoid it. As for the south launch I really have no idea.

The pike were mainly in the 18-22' range.
