Question What kind of caterpillar is this???

Brother found this today at spruce point, Slave Lake. Does anybody know what kind of caterpillar it is and what it turns into??? Thanks

Dunno, but I think the big head with the eye is actually the back end, no?

If I'm not mistaken, that is the caterpillar of a Canadian Tiger Swallowtail. You can run a search, but I'm pretty sure...

Looks to me like a walrus with a pretty substantial case of dwarfism.

Nice find!

That is definitely Papilio and almost certainly Papilio rutulus, the Western Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly.

Very cool.

I've only ever seen these guys in gardens on dill, carrots, or parsley.

Normally they are green, but they turn brown late in the season before they pupate.....summers almost over....

Thanks bee. My brother and I wanted to know what it was. All we ever see are the black and yellow fuzzy ones and smaller green ones. It was neat to find this one.
