Edmonton's Best Greasy Spoon Diner???
Hey everyone,
Well I have been asking myself this question for a while now....
Which local greasy spoon mom and pop restaurant/diner is Edmonton's best?
I'm starting this thread cause after watching a show on the Food Network titled Diners, Dives and Drive-ins, I got to thinking that there are some really great local eatery's that call Edmonton their home.
Now everyone has their own opinion and taste when it comes to good ol fashioned comfort food and with it being fall, and winter around the corner I am curious as to what fellow forum members think of some of the local grub in and around the city.
?????
What do you say?

Any number of Donair shops around. They only seem to be popular in Edmonton and Halifax

The 99th St Diner's got the right atmosphere.
Da De O's on Whyte has a bit of a diner vibe - but the food's better than that (excellent Cajun fare, and cheap chili beer and good wings on Sundays).

Oh yea sure. Blame the guy that just gave you an excuse to go out to LP, and get a great sandwich. On your way out there you could get in some hunting......thanks Anvil! I think I'll do that Thursday

Theres a great buger bar in Westlock, Remys or something like it...I swear they put crack in those burgers sooooo good. The shakes are good too....if your in LaBiche the Hotel makes a great REAL Clubhouse too. Me and Blood go in there and order it so much the waitress just looks at us and says to twhoever serves us " clubhouse on white, fries sides of gravy" so I ordered mine on brown and she thought I was a smart azz and punched me

It's not in Edmonton, but the General Store in Buck lake makes(or used to make...I haven't been there for a while) the best loaded roast beef sandwich I have ever had...homemade bread and all.
My wife and I have driven there from the city just for some lunch.

The Silk Hat, downtown I think 104 or 105st and Jasper on the south side of Jasper. I used to eat there all the time because the prices were cheap and the food was fantastic you could get the steak sandwich for 6$ and it was a full heaping plate and a pint of trad was 3$.. I remember when my mom came from back home and we ate there and she told me stories about eating there when she was young and people tied horses up in the front.. I guess it was a lot more classy back then.. now its a good greasy spoon with interesting clientèle.
Keegans on 109st is a great greasy spoon with a full menu of fat.. love the poutine with a fried egg on top.
Dad e o's for sure one of the best for cajun.. I go there when ever I can, not really my idea of GS though. Highly recommend this place. mmm the blackened catfish po'boy or the gumbo!
Tastey Toms on Whyte.. great breakfast
I wasn't very impressed with HL diner.. Its been awhile, I think it was the food.. from what I remember there wasn't much selection..
I have a hundred restaurants in my head but forget.. sorry

The greasy spoon diners died when they banned smoking. The Burgers in the Cynthia Hotel are classic greasy spoon food

Saturday morning breakfast special at Pat and Mike's, 184st just north of stony plain rd.
There was a place on a lake as you come off the forestry trunk rd south of Ram Falls. Can't remember it's name. Hit it for breakfast by accident. Been thinking about a special out there for the breakfast buffet. Good food, rancher/hunter/fisherman approved. (well, judging by the clientel). Is that the buck lake one?

On 104 ave and Calgary Trail, there is an apartment complex called Ermenskin Place. There is a pub there called Gilles Pub (or it used to be anyway) its not exactly "greasy spoon", but they have awesome chicken wings. At least they did about 6 years ago. My favorite breakfast place? Haps on Stony Plain Rd. Thats greasy spoon.

Just have to make sure you get extra garlic sauce so your
breath smells and garlic ouzes out of you for the next 3 days.

X2 for the lodgepole hotel. Grandpa homesteaded there in 1932 and I been going to lodgepole for 51 years. The new owner likes food. Burgers are worth the drive. Gotta love the bush quarter in the green zone on the river. Thank's Gramps.

This is waaay out of Edmonton, but if you ever get the chance, go to the D&R drive-in in Innisfail. Get the mushroom burger. They're closed in winter, but my father used to skip school in the 60's to go. Now I always make a side-trip to get one going back and forth from Ded Reer for work.

I cant understand how any of you think BURGER BARON is good eating. I have been unfortuate enough to go to 3-4 of them.. Every time it sucks. Its even a big joke when we leave Valley View on the way home. The joke is a threat to take the new guy to the BB.
YUCK!!
I like small town Chinese food. Well other than the one in LLoyd. That was just gross.

Don't know if this classifies as a diner, but Ricky's All Day Grill on 170th street has the best breakfast in town.
