What’s your integrity worth? $200?
Just got a call from Honda dealership where I recently had an oil change.
She said “ if I fill out that e-survey Honda sent, they will give me $200 credit on my next repair BUT only if I put service was 5 stars.” I get squat if I put the truth.
I told her to tell her manager who gave her that direction to give me a call.
Any opinions?

That's a terrible policy. I would want to know the true state of my service department. And if a customer had a negative experience I would like a to have an opportunity to make it right. There is no value in doctored reviews. My opinion.

Kind of the new normal as I have had several vendors do the same thing. Even the dentist will give me a $25.00 Tim card for 5 stars.

It's almost unbelievable car dealerships are getting more slimy there's one in Lloyd I will never go to again
The whole point of reviews is show others good or bad service, paying for good reviews is corrupt although some would take the money for sure, the lesson is never trust reviews at a dealership.

As a business owner who proudly has an extremely high organically attained google rating, this type of practice chokes me to no end...
This is an example of why I tell people to take reviews with a grain of salt, but at the same time it upsets me as someone who does not solicit reviews and only want clients to put something up because the feel it is worth saying, positive or negative.

I've got over 700 reviews as a mod, a 1.3 Star Rating, it proves an honest system works. Sure, I could have spent $100k to bump that up to a 2.6 Star Rating, but then you wouldn't know what you are dealing with. And I kept the $100k.
I'd give the dealership or anyone else an honest review, even if it is a 5 Star, and tell them to keep their filthy lucre. Principle.

You say that it's an e-survey. That tells me that this is an internal survey from Honda. I'd give 'em the 5 star review and get my 200 bucks off. ( I might decide not to make use of the $200 offer )
Then, I would write a Google review for them. It would be something like this.
" I was offered $200 off my next service if I gave ASDF Honda a 5 star review on a survey sent to me from Honda Canada. The following is my honest review of their service. blah blah blah yada yada.......... "
Then, I would look for a new place to get my vehicle serviced. Any service center that can pay people $200 for a 5 star review is obviously overcharging.

I would give them a 5 star review and then write in the comments, dealership offered me $200 credit as long as I left a 5 star review! Anything lower no credit.

I have been flamed on Internet rating services by angry people.
Some who simply call at 4 PM on a Friday Afternoon, fishing for a legal opinion, usually for their daughter, son, sister, brother, etc. When asked why the daughter, son, sister, brother, etc, are not calling themselves, I get the story that they are busy. They expect that I can and will spend an hour of free time with them, when I am trying to leave the Office for the weekend, so they can gossip about their daughter, son, sister, brother, etcs' problem.
When I tell them its 4 PM on a Friday Afternoon, and they are not the Client, and the information I need will have to come from the Client firsthand, as the second hand facts can not be accurate, and it is important that the person is relayed the information I give accurately and directly to them, I get a one star rating.
I am apparently rude on a Friday Afternoon at 4 PM when being talked to for free.
Usually no other lawyer has even picked up the phone for these people, on a Friday afternoon, and they feel some expectation that I owe them my time.
Don't put too much value in reviews. For a price a 1 star is a 5 star rating.
Why it is a 1 star review may be as a result of an agenda. Some competitors take great satisfaction in roasting a competitor on internet reviews.
But yes, if they want to buy a 5 star review at the service department, just remember that the future discount will be buried in the bill at a later date.
You get nothing for nothing.

It’s a two sided coin. They are looking for satisfied customers to spread the good word and be rewarded. If you think it’s an opportunity to lie to get some bucks, that’s on you. When working for my wife’s business, we targeted clients who were able to bring in referrals, and treated them well. It’s a simple qualifying technique

A little more to the story.
I called Honda Canada to see what they would say.
They said “We have no affiliation with the dealerships so we have no comment”
I said but the Dealership is the dealer selling 100% Honda vehicles?
I asked for a call back from corporate.
Quite the little rabbit hole.

A Toyota dealership tried a similar tactic on us. I was helping my recently widowed mother negotiate a price on a new vehicle, and the sales leader said he would agree to the deal if we gave them a 5 star review on the survey Toyota Canada sends out when you buy a new vehicle.
We made the deal, and they then started with the BS. I caught them in several lies, and they then tried bullying my 80year old mother - phoning her and trying to make her agree to things we had already declined saying they have other buyers who will take it if she doesn’t.
I found out and called his manager to give him a piece of my mind. The manager smoothed everything over, but everyone knew I was ****ed.
Long story short-er we never did get the survey. I don’t know if hey filled it out themselves, sent a bum email address or how they avoided us getting it.

It drives me crazy how dealerships hound you to do surveys.
I just spent a mint at your shop, stop nagging me to do your advertising.

Bob made me give him $5 if I posted a good review of his business. In hindsight I may of been ripped off.

If you've got the money to pay dealership labour rates for a simple oil change then you don't need the 200 bucks anyway lol

If the review is public… one can edit after the facts often.
If the review is an internal competition… who cares. I’d take the $200.
It’s a game.
One doesn’t need to take it however. Plus… after the service it was absolutely horrible then give an honest review and request a call back to fix the problem.

Yes reviews are very much a part of life these day's no matter where you go or what you do, I had the wife's Lincoln service here in town at the local ford dealer a couple weeks ago, when I picked it up the young lady said you will get a text later today please give us your feedback anything less than a perfect score is unacceptable, I told her save your time honey I don't do reviews.
Had a meeting in Saskatoon over the weekend, stayed at the sandman signature where we had the board room for the meeting, had dinner with the crew in Chops steak house in the hotel Saturday night, by the time I got home Sunday afternoon I had 2 bings on my phone, please tell us about your stay, 2 minutes later how was your dinning experience with us..... delete delete.
Superstore, home depot, the co-op hell a guy could spend an hour a day filling in reviews and feedbacks, sorry ain't happening.

How many of these surveys works is the manufacturer will give out bonus only if it's a 5 star rating. That's all the will look at, could be all 4 stars, excellent service and work, but they won't consider it. Set there standards at a extremely high point, keep raising it so that they don't have to meet there side of the bargin. Been in auto industry for many years and have witnessed it first hand.

if the surveys come back less than perfect they take the advisors pay away , most of the time the only people who get screwed are the ones that actually work , the pointy shoes ,hair gelled idiots get paid no matter what.

I would not even entertain this at all.
The call would have been me asking for the boss or person in charge to have a conversation if not hang up and take my business elsewhere.

The reality is , that some people would gladly take the $200, because they are the parasites that expect handouts, and will do whatever it takes to get them. Those people are why socialists get elected.

They'll just jack your next repair bill by $210 anyways. Fishy business.
