ATTENTION
pls check google sattellite map, make sure lake u going to drill dosent have water stream going in or out from the lake, if there is one stay away from stream atleast 100 feet...
water streams create air bubbles and warmer water, this can cause thin surface or canal under the ice...
always bring ICE PICK...

Wizard has 5" of good ice, 3" of white ice.
Jim Nelson pond has about the same. Just remember there is an aerator on the south side.

a local guy thought the same last winter around Brooks, ice was 12 inches where he drove on. truck became a submarine. 12 inches is nuts. it isnt always the same thickness all over any lake in Alberta, why risk going through and maybe dying, walk!

Havn't checked for thickness but on the northeast side there is heave and alot of open water with flowing springs. I thought I would hike across the corner and go about 50 yards of shore and the ice started to crack and pop like crazy, this was after I fell into my waist in a muskrat run.
I think the ice maybe not that good yet. I also heard there are moving shacks out to Pipes Point.

Pretty good ice at Carson was out yesterday easily 12- 14" However some ******* was driving 50. I stuck out my hand to slow him down and he stopped asked what the problem was and I explained the wave created by a moving vehicle and the dangers associated with said wave. He rudely told me it was a police vehicle and sped off. Anyone aware of Grey Ford F-150 police vehicles driving 50 km/hr on the ice.

Wouldn't try touchwood. Ice is always sketchy there.
Guy went through pinehurst last week I heard.
Don't know anythin about seibert, but theres a spring on the left of the boat ramp so I would stay away from that part lol.
I really don't think people understand how mild it has been this year. Its like they think becuase its mid Dec the ice is good everywhere.

I know what you are saying, last year this time we had about twice the ice. hopefully it hangs around for a couple weeks so I dont have to trade the auger for the pontoon. it has been cold enough here to keep the ice and add a bit overnight, but the daytime temps and wind really arent helping!

Do not go on touchwood. Looked good by the campsite 12" took quads along the north shore to go fishing. Crossed one heave by the north river which wast a big deal. On the way home in the dark the wind had picked up considerably and our tracks on the heave looked much steeper than earlier in the day. Got off the quads to find out the other side of the heave was now wide open water about three feet deep and the heave went right into the swamp. And only about 6" of ice by shore coming out of the heave. Had to make A makeshift trail over the swamp getting hung up on every beaver stump.
Give it AT LEAST a week. I'd give it two.

Carson had about 14-16 inches on it yesterday, probably about 20 trucks driving on it. Everytime a truck moved you could here the booms coming from the ice. Once had a crack go right between my legs. A few of them were doing at least 30-40km/h leaving the ice

Chestermere Lake Dec 26. Measured 12 inches of ice, but watched a quad break through under the bridge. Be careful out there folks.
