Default October Trout Fishing

Hi - Still pretty new to fishing and wanted to take my kids our to Cardiff Pond to shore fish for some trout on friday.

Is this a futile effort in october with an estimated temp of 6C? Any suggestions if cardiff is no good suggestions for somewhere close to edmonton? Boat is all packed up for the season.

Thanks,

Ain't too familiar of the lay of the land with regards to trout fishin i yer neck od of the woods but do know the lake whitefish should be really good right know if they are in you general vicinity, down south here it can be really good.
Alot of these stocked lakes take a beating by this time of year.

All the pot hole trout ponds ive tried the last month gave poor results unless you bait fish.
Then its still slow but more chance of catching.

Cardiff was really slow the last two times I went there. But there is a playground there if the kids get bored. Some of the smaller stocked ponds around might be easier.
I rarely see anyone fish Leduc reservoir and they stock a few thousand fish each year. Within the last two years they released 220 big broodstock there too. The reservoir rarely if ever winter kills.

You might do better fishing the river in town.

Cardiff is likely as good as any pond for a shore fishing outing on Friday. I've taken some on backswimmers or micro leech patterns the last few outings but it's not like last year! Don't know how the bait fishers are doing but it's been so cold that not many people have been out.
