Default Fall Lake Whites

I never fish for lake whitefish, but have a strange renewed interest in the species. I am ignorant of these things, I know everybody fishes them in the winter, but also heard there is quite a run on them in the fall. Do they run up the canals? Do they mass in some areas of the lake where a guy can get a bunch.

And what's your fall gear preference?

I aspire to get a bunch of lake whites this fall and go kill some geese.

In the southern reservoirs they will start to stack up at the dam faces for the Dec spawn. Anything that works in the winter will work suspended under a bobber. If the water is fairly clear, you are still you should be able to see them swimming around. Late Oct and Nov. are best.

At Cross Coulee reservoir the whites are stacked up right along the opening of a canal and you can easily catch them on small red wireworms on a fly rod or under a bobber. Haven't seen this happen to any other body of water yet... not that I know of.
