When I was a wee lad I had two steel fishing rods. They were actually quite flexible. I caught a lot of fish on them. Then I went high tech. There were 'fiberglass' rods on the market adn you could bend the tip to the reel seat and they wouldn't break.

These rods are likely from the immediate post-war (WWII) era. I have a square steel tapered bait-cast rod with the guides attached with soldered fine copper wire. Looks great.

my uncle was just given an all steel rod, Richardson of Chicago stamped in the butt. And telescopic to boot. Didn't take a pic of the full rod for some reason.

I have one that is a rod with a large ball on the end. The reel is inside the ball and has a slot in it so you pull it in the back position to cast and then slide it forward to reel the line in. It is 50's area set-up.

I fished with those as well in the sixties in Ontario. Actually saw a few of them around.

Have never used it but got it from a girlfriend's grama who lived in East Coullee near drumheller about 25 years ago. It is a 2 piece rod and when moving a few years ago I broke the tip off, broke my heart doing that. It still has the line from when I got it so thats over 25 years old. wonder if that mono is still good. LOL
