This debate has been going on for years and F/W or whoever makes the boating laws refuse to clearly define the regulation. All they would have to do is state that gas motors can not be used or mounted on boats in lakes that have the restriction.

I asked the Rocky Mtn House F&W about this - they said it is a gray area, sadly up to a bit of interpretation. They did say that if they saw a gas motor hovering over a lake restricted to electric only, they believe the intent of the law is to keep pollutants from sensitive waters - and would ticket and if it went to court, let the judge decide as its not "technically" the provincial boys who control the restrictions on those waters.

I then spoke to a trial lawyer who looked at the laws - he was rather clear that the intent of the law is not to have gas or oil products around these water bodies and told me "I don't think I could get you out of a ticket on those lakes if you got one."

So I'm watching for a different boat for those little puddles lol.

I phoned fish and wildlife RMH this morning and was told that you will only get a ticket if motor is used. She said I didn't even have to remove my gas can or make motor inoperable. I find this hard to believe as I have heard so many different things from people over the years. I asked F&W on facebook and they would not answer instead told me to call my local F&W office which leaves me somewhat skeptical still. Anyone ever been given a ticket for this? If so what was the charge laid?
