Any Newell Reports???

Headed there on Saturday, just wondering hows it fishing???

We were there last weekend. Fished it well, pulled 3 pike and 4 eyes out in a few hrs of fishing. 3 eyes were too big for our tags

They were biting on almost anything, jigs, raps and bottom bouncers and we fished around the lake to find schools. Water temp was around 70, and they hit in depths around 12-16ft. Good luck.

try Jackfish bay...10ft water and watch for spots with cabage weeds...between 2 of us over an afternoon we caught about 10 pike each and one really nice fat walleye (24 inches didn't have a scale).

Is July good for Walleye on Newell? Any info on what to use etc.

Thanks for the all the replys. I was on the lake by 6:30am (Saturday) and fishing was super slow till about noon( only 2 pike) then things picked up a bit and we just kept trolling till we found them. Then the fish really turned on. We caught over 80 walleye in just a few hours with the biggest around 5.5-6lbs.
We managed to find a real nice drop-off and were running spinner blades off the bottom.

I was on Newell with my Kayak last week trolling a 3.5" diving minnow, and landed a nice walleye in the first 5 minutes.

Psst near the water pumping station on the north end. there is about a 20' chanel running through there.

Ya its tough goin now. Whole lake just summer killed yesterday. Darndest thing anyone has ever seen. Talk of the town, havent you heard yet?? I wouldnt waste my time I'll tell ya,,, could be afew years....

Answered my own question:

The amount of oxygen a water body can hold is directly related to water temperature. Generally, the colder the temperature, the more oxygen the water can hold.

Many water bodies summer kill regularly because they are shallow or have shallow bays where water temperatures rise and oxygen levels lower. The high temperatures also cause algae to bloom and then die out suddenly. The decomposition of the algae by microscopic organisms further reduces the oxygen in the water. Lack of significant rainfall, which brings oxygenated water into the lake, can also contribute to summer kill.

Summer kill may occur only in portions of a lake (e.g., shallow bays). Some fish may survive by staying in the deeper and colder portions where oxygen concentrations are high enough for survival.

The warm water also makes it possible for certain microorganisms to reproduce and subsequently cause diseases in fish. This can be a contributing factor to summer kill. <

Crap I hope this is not the case..

I really don't see how it cold happen on Newell this summer. We were just out there last week and the water temp was in the mid 60's and the water was as clear as it gets in these res lakes.. Huh very strange..
