Default What kind of hole?? Bullet?

Looked out my bedroom today and noticed what appeared to be a bullet hole. I live on the far SE end of the city and guys are out there shooting. I think some guys think they maybe are far enough out of the city to be shooting. Anyway the hole about the size of a .17 or .22,. The window is on the upstairs window and the field is quite a distance for this kind of damage, so it had to have more power than 499fps. If anyone here shoots within city limits NOT A GOOD IDEA!! Please make sure your far enough out of the city limits. I hear shots out the back maybe once every couple weeks.

If it was a bullet it probably fell straight down under the mark on the window, or it is in the room. Look around a bit and see if you can find a projectile. Then we will all know.

If I had to ponder a guess, I would say kids with a higer powered pellet gun from the road. Going to talk with the neighbors to see if anyone else was hit. My insurance wants me to call police and the police told me not to touch anything untill they get there..

just not cool as I have two small children in the house too...

Police showed up, nothing much he could do. We couldn't find any other damage so it appears to be random.(maybe the wife needs to hire a better hitman??) He said it was most likely a pellet gun. He took my info and told me to inform neighbors and to stay vigilant,..

That sucks man.

These are the punks that drive around at night shooting out bus shelters. My truck windshield got hit several years ago by a passing motorist in Bowness. The round would have struck me in the chest had it been anything other than a pellet gun.......

Stone from the road in your picture.

You would be surprised at the speed a small stone can fly out from a semi tire.

That hole appears to be made from the inside.
Take a piece of glass and shoot it with a pellet gun,
you'll notice that the pellet hits the glass and creates what
is called a volcano effect. It hits a small area but blows out a bigger area
on the opposite side of the hit. This happens with any gun.
I'm surprised the police never mentioned this.

An A-hole?

Some little pukes have tried to hit my motion lights on my garage and house.
I have some nice little bb gun holes in my vinyl to show for it.
Few years back in winter I was done moving snow and was taking a break on the front deck. It was dark-about 9:00 at night.
A small truck came along and hit the breaks right beside my 1 ton. I heard a bang and a thud. The truck took off and went about 4 houses up repeated the process. When they hit my truck I knew immediatly what was going on. I raced down to the road and got the last 3 digits of the plate. The car up the road ended up with what looked like a 22 sized hole. It was not a pellet sized or bb sized.
Feds came out and were very casual about it.
I never heard any more from them on follow up but there was an article in the local paper. The dinks had done the same thing down by the kinsmen pool in Sherwood Park.

Keep in mind that this is the Sherwood Park horsemen..the same ones that came to the conclusion that a homicide was an accidental electricution and the later found a 22 hole and slug in the guys ear

We have plenty of big trucks going by so could be plausable. It is quite a distance from the road though.

The hole is on the outside pane of glass, inside panes are not affected. The smaller hole is on the very outside and volcano effect on the inside of the outter pane.. If that makes any sense,,

BB gun.

Our front window was shot and had the same bullseye in the glass. Found the BB between the two panes of glass.

Always thought this was exaggerated until I took one in the thigh, it left a hell of a bruise even through heavy coveralls. Totally plausible.

We're building in Mahogany now, was down there at lunch time doing a walkthough, nice to know there are other members down there.

Default Window

It's called a "hertzian cone of percussion" and the impact mark is the small end and it certainly looks like its in the inside of the window that means the impact came from inside the house.

The watch commander at the time messed up BIG TIME. They thought that it was an accidental electrcution and didn't preserve the crime scene. After the fact, they re-examined the corpse and found that he had been shot with a .22 in the ear.

Not sure if they ever got the killer but the Superintendant, watch commander, and about 5 members got spanked and transferred.
