Haven't done this myself......TradGang.com is probably the best site for advice on this subj. Modern shafts? Wood or cane are the best choices for a match with obsidian. Lots of the guys who build these hunt deer with them too...............so as long as the arrow/tip complies with (for big game):

; you are good to go. I would do it (shoot deer) with a well built arrow.
