Default Thanks Dad

Sittin at my stand, 10 minutes of the day left, then it’s a short 20 minute walk back to camp, let the dog out and have supper, maybe even a whiskey and a toast to you.

I spent the early afternoon working on a whitetail I got right in this very spot, and it’s all deboned and ready for the freezer and the frying pan.

5 minutes of light left, still about a half hour of legal light, but not enough for my aging eyes.

Short walk back to camp and couldn’t be happier.
Heart full of pride and thankfulness.

Thanks for taking me hunting in the 1st place.

Thanks for dragging me out of bed all those early mornings until one day I ended up being the first one out of bed, no alarm needed.

Thanks for buying all those .22 and 410 shells so us kids could go out the and shoot, and learn, and have fun.

Thanks for teaching us how to make a camp, get wood, start a fire, fly a tarp...and be as comfy in wall tent or a truck bed, or a lean to, as much as a 5 start hotel.

Thanks for teaching me how to dress an animal in the field so good there isn’t even enough for the coyotes when I leave...ravens and whiskey jacks, maybe.

Thanks for teaching me how to make (fresh deer) liver and oinions and proving that a Coleman stove is one of the finest culinary tools ever invented.

Thanks for taking me hunting and passing on the ability to see what a gift this all is.

Thanks for the deer today.

Thanks for making me want to pass this down to my kids, and I am.

Here’s to you Pop, I know your right here by the fire with me tonight and always.

Here’s to the Hunters.

Thanks

Met a young fellow out in the field today, about 12 yrs old, took his first deer. Dad had he and his older brother out. Nice to see!

Well said. From the heart. It is good to reflect from where we have come.

Dad always made sure to take me along 'chicken' hunting and I became his right hand chicken spotter at an very early age. Growing up, the unlimited ammo Dad supplied for gophers and varmints was better than an allowance. My father is long gone now and is still able to make me smile... with the fond memories of our outdoor adventures.

Chet Atkins sings a tribute to his dad.

Default Dad couldn't, so Thanks to MANY OTHERS

My Dad in hind sight was a pretty severe sufferer of PTSD from growing up in the War, and then being a Displaced Person (refugee) who could not go back to the Soviet Empire for fear of certain death.

No heritage of the out doors on his side, and a Divorce didn't help, but he bank rolled his two crazy sons.

Now there are MANY men who took us under their wing, taught us, showed us, and took us out to experience hunting and fishing.

My Baby Bro and I owe a huge debt of gratitude for this to these men. YES take your kids out, but if they have friends from non hunting families who are interested, or single parent families who have no resources, take them out as well. Most of my son's friends have learned to shoot, hunt and fish from me, and this is how I pay it forward.
