Unhappy snowmobilers fall through ice

Cold Lake has an area where the river enters the lake....that area is usually unstable for a 100 yards or so...flowing water pushes baitfish etc into the lake and the larger fish will hang out in these areas but this attracts us to fish these areas...just be very cautious.

Flowing water will get you sooner or later whether angling or just out for a ride...

****y deal you hire an experienced guide to take you somewhere thinking you're safe and he veers off the trail ,and takes you to the worst part of the lake and kills everyone condolences to all.

That’s a real tragedy, sour. Condolences to all those folks and thankfully some of them survived. I know this, you really have to pay attention to all the inflows on a waterbody when traveling on the ice and in particular a keen eye for subtle changes in snow colour from white to grey. Always pays to carry a spud bar or drill a hole and get off your duff and double check on foot. When Breaking new trail you have to be really cautious

Very sad! Another reason to stay off the ice with a sled! I’ve crossed frozen water once and it was perhaps the biggest pucker factor Ive ever had on a sled. I fell through the ice once on the South Saskatchewan... that cured me of wanting to hang out on ice...

Not a reason to stay off the ice ,there's tools now that'll hold your sled from sinking flotation suits that'll keep you from drowning just have to be prepared and smart

Sounds like they were in a very dangerous area and way off the marked trail system, very unfortunate, not unlike skiers that duck under the ropes to ski the out of bounds areas, it's risky

That is key right there, preparation and a keen eye on the ice....I still don't like it...being slightly uneasy is a good thing as you tend to not elevate the risk...according to the news the guide took them off designated trails maybe to take a short cut back...either way very sad.
