One things leads me to think they are fake. If that were me, from that angle you would see a big pile of crapp laying on the ground!!
Just kidding. Those are awesome. Thanks Tree.

Great series of pictures, I wonder how close the photographer actually was to the action.

Sweet pictures, although i would take the versus part out of the description, as i think the ram may have just had his ass handed to him.

A few pics missing....I was sent these in an e-mail as well, from someone living in Banff.
Staff was out boating & saw the Cougar kill the Ram. They (more than one Ram) was at a mineral lick.

Exactly what I was thinking! And out of season too!
Bad kitty!
Bad kitty!
Kewl pics, definitely. It's so neat to have an event like this captured on film.
Of course, it brings up the issue that the big cats are getting pretty comfortable around people...

very cool pictures
quote from the article:
"Cougar activity for the most part appears to be on the rise around the outskirts of Banff,.."
and also in the local bars,
sorry but somebody had to make a bad joke about that

Yah, but it's in the Park, so who cares? It was at Minnewanka, a few years ago, that a cougar killed a woman. I think I'd be watching my back, around there, especially since this beast doesn't seem to mind putting on day time performances.

When we were fishing the lake last year, we watched two mountain bikers zipping down the trail. Not 2 minutes later, a smaller (3 year oldish?) Grizzly appeared on the same trail heading in the same direction. It was in no paticular rush and seemed either oblivious to the bikers or just didn't really care as the trail gets used quite a bit. We tried yelling a warning to the bikers, but they were long gone. Incidently, this was just a few days before 2 bikers on the same section ran into a female with cubs and were injured from falling off their bikes trying to get away. Crazy. There be critters out there for sure!

I just looked at the pics again and it struck me that, given the size of those rocks, the cat probably knew the ram was unlikely to make a quick escape or maneuver effectively. Definitely not a safe place for a ram to be.
