Default Newbie Question

Pine coullie regs says bait except bait fish permitted. This means salted and/or frozen minnows on a jig head are okay right?

Going with my son for his first walleye trip tomorrow.

Default baitfish.....

Check out what the definition of "baitfish" are in the regulations. Then go buy yourself some frozen smelts from superstore. I was checked one year ice fishing up at Spray lakes and the officer indicated these were ok in waters that have a "baitfish" ban, but other bait is allowed.

How did you do fishing with your boy at the 'coulee' ? Was the water very low ?

Cheers,

It was a good time. He wants to go back next weekend and camp. We only fished for maybe 1 1/2 hours, caught 1 and spent the rest of the time scouting. (and clearing his snags, tangles and lure changes) There was an C.O. checking licenses so we asked him about the minnows. His reply was that him and his partner allow salted minnows just because it is not clearly defined in the regs.

Wow !

That's unusual....

Nice to see that they have a 'good attitude' towards the body of water they are policing. That reservoir has almost TOO MANY fish in it ! You can easily have a 100+ fish day from a boat and half that from the shore if you know where to go... Were you two fishing from a boat or from the shore ?
PM me if you need some help with spots / lures, I'd be happy to help

The camping there looks really nice... Lot's of people say they would rather go there than a lot of other places.

Cheers,

/FC...
