Default Cold lake: thurs-sunday

3 of us got to cold lake wed night. Started out thurs 8 ish. Due to the climate didnt explore as much as we wanted. By the time we set up shack(warmth) Fished for about 4 hrs. Day 1 skunked. Day 2 was a better start. Landed a couple by 10. Then exploring time. Found a decent drop off. Marking fish and battled the reels freezing for a couple hrs. Landed 4. Decided to move down lake 4 miles from french bay park access. This proved to be a good move. Averaged 15-20 fish landed per day. 3 over 85 cm. Missing several others. Was great until this morning when due to the cold. Snapped my gear shifter on my quad.(before we unloaded). Too frozen/ lack of tools to pull stuff apart. So we trecked the 3 miles from ski resort down the lake to the shack. Fished for a few hrs. Then loaded up sled for the 2.5 hr treck back. All i can say is....bagged. But id do it again. The other 2.....maybe! Lol. Great weekend!! Guess thats why they call it Cold Lake.

So I was out on my sled today on the lake. Lots of guys/gals at the marina; a couple of trucks there. The ice is pretty bad in regards to pointy shards sticking up for about 200yds; bad sledding area!
I then made my way around to the Prov park launch area; large ice ridge off of point straight out to lake with fresh signs of water. Never did make it to the launch as ice heave was too big to go over/across. Friend told me lots of trucks at French bay area as seen from ski hill.

Okay, just got off the lake from doing a recce.

French Bay is good. 5 trucks on the ice. Very little snow.

Provincial Park, I drove out to the Newfie Hump without any problem. There is lots of broken ice that refroze making driving beyond that point difficult (hard on tires) but I hope to blaze a trail threw this week if nobody else does.

I never drilled holes or fished. Just wanted to check for heaves.

Default cold lake

Im heading up there in the morning. Im bringing my handicapped friend with me and moving while out on ice isnt easy. I usually set up just out from campground but last time i brought him there he had no luck. Just wondering if theres another area someone could point me to? Im not looking for honey holes or anything just want to get him on some fish. Any info greatly appreciated. Ill be sledding on i dont like him not being able to get out of car if anything were to happen.

Not much snow at all. 2-3 inches with a little more at the drifts.

I'm thinking about heading out late this month or early next for some fishing on Marie and Cold Lake. It's been a few years.

Was out this morning went into ice at French Bay and there was 18 inches of good ice, maybe 6 inches of snow. Fished off of second point and left lake through Provincial park. No legal fish, but there's next time. Does anyone have any suggestions for where to set up for jacks?
