What kind of boots are best?

Iv never had a great pare of hiking boots. Iv been trying to find a pare that will last a long time dose anyone have any that they would recommend thanks.

I have both Hanwag and Lowa, love both pairs. I have narrow feet and high end boot companies are the only ones that make narrow boots. I waited 55 years to get a good pair and will say I misspent a lot of money in between.

Theres a lot of good boot makers out there. Everyones biased but no ones incorrect.

But some good names are Irish Setter and meindl

Cabelas carries meindl and irish setter.

Red wings boots in Edmonton does as well.

I bought my second pair of Danner Pronghorns last fall. The first pair lasted almost ten years; they are comfy, waterproof and look good, too! And they won't break the bank.

I'm a big fan of full leather scarpas. They fit my feet like none other and can take a serious beating time after time.

Hanwag. Best boots I've ever owned. 2 tours in Afghanistan wearing them, countless trips to the mountains fishing, hiking, hunting. Still wearing the same ones.

12 year old boots. Guides love em! Will last another 12 yrs. No break in required. Huntfest Edmonton.

Another vote for the Handwags. Not sure how many pairs I've worn out over the years or how many hundreds of miles they have carried me. I wear the Alaskan GTX. They have the gortex liner in the boot. Can get them at Track and Trail in Edmonton or Monods in Banff. Not sure who else carries them but those spots for sure.

Saying that, everybody's foot is different and other boot makers may fit you better. If you have the luxury, try on boots from other makers before deciding.

Another vote for Hanwags.
I've had 3 pairs...first pair from 98-2002, 2nd pair from 2002, and still wearing them...sooo comfortable...I bought a 3rd pair 3 years ago cause they were on sale, but the 2002 pair still feel so darn good.

I wear them for hunting and almost all the time for work from +30 to -30.
On my feet more than the average bear.

I love my Meindl and Irish Setter Elk Tracker boots. Both are very comfortable, the Elk Tracker has 1000 grams of Thinsulate, so it's super warm.
The Meindl has lifetime warranty and I wonder how will that work if repair needed...

X's 2, I bought apair of these in August and love them were comfortable from the get go! And I put alot of miles on them.

Irish setter and vasque, the hunting and sport denominations of redwing boots. I have all three and the missus has a pair if lady vasque hikers. All great boots. I do have a pair of the uninsulated elk tracker boots, that for some reason has a big seam under the linning in the heal. Cant wear them and was pretty upset adter shelling out 300$

I vote Scarpas. The best boots out of the box you can buy. For Hiking, backpacking, climbing that is. I have had the M3's and whats now the Fuego for 15 years. Still going strong.

the SL Activ is what replaced the M3's classic all leather italian hiking boots.

I was very disappointed with my Irish setter elk trackers. Never again. Wet feet super fast. Father in law has the same pair. He doesn't wear them either. I figured I'd give them a try..... Nope.

I bought danner boots last summer. They were fantastic this last year. Hopefully I feel the same way a couple years down the road.

Those Handwag's look pretty sweet. I'll be looking for them next go around if the danners disappoint.

Great thread. I have always cheaped out and bought the cheap Rockies canadian tire sells on sale. I find them comfortable enough, but will only keep my feet dry the first year. I have bought multiple sets (yes I'm cheap, and a slow learner it seems) and wish I had bought something better the first time.
