300 wsm dying out?
I see more and more 300wsm going up for sale lately. I was wondering if the 300 wsm craze was dying out already? Or Is it due to limited bullet selections compared to other magnums out there?

It can't be due to bullet selection, as the 300wsm uses the same bullets as the other 300 magnums.

It's likely the most popular of all the short mags.
Can't see it going away any time soon.

You're likely seeing more going up for sale because there is now so many out there. People will sell a rifle because of fit or feel also, not just because of chambering

300 wsm
I have a rifle in this caliber and love it. Possibly there is a shortage of ammunition but I reload so I have no worries there. I recall seeing an ad for 300WSM brass so maybe it is not on every dealers shelf.
I'm sure this caliber will be around for a long time and doubt it will ever replace 300 Win mag.

The 300wsm is alive and well. Its the 7mmwsm that is dying off. Its too bad as it is a very accurate cartridge with more powder capacity than the 270 or 300wsm's

Strange isn't it?..how the best of the WSM's is the least popular.
I have a 7mm WSM reamer and a set of dies as well as 3 boxes of factory ammo and I keep threatening to build one....someday.

.300 wsm
The .300 WSM is am extremely accurate offering. The trouble these days seems to be trying to find brass to reload, unless we want to pay Mr. Nosler 100 dollars for just 25 pieces. Thankfully Hornady has answered the bell on this and has started producing brass. At least Hornady thinks we should get 50 brass for 100 bucks.

I've been seeing more and more 300 WSM brass on the shelves this summer than I have in the last 10 years. Winchester for 40$ or so. Now I don't have a 300 WSM but I have the 270 WSM which brass is slightly harder to find. If I was going to buy another WSM I would definitely go for the 300. In reality I'll probably just go with a light kicker in 6.5 mm.

OP
As soon as you see a good "dying" 300wsm at a good price , don't be shy and get it...Lol
Many others will "die" before.
Its not gonna go anywhere. Its staying for good.
Just my 2 cents.

I've had five. It isn't dying out and never will. There are wsm haters but who cares. Every bit as good as the 300 win mag.

Love my 300wsm. I have found there has been an increase in 300wsm factory loads actually.

Me too. I have 5 boxes of ttsx federal mrx federal 2 boxes of blue box and brass .but no 300wsm in my collection
I have no issues with the caliber. Just was way more gun than I need.
To me there are lots of other calibers that should be obsoleted. 280 rem being one of them.........

About a year ago, Flies Etc quoted me $140 for 100 Norma brass. Don't know if that's current or not.

i've been going the other direction. after years of more powder and heavier bullets i went to light recoil and low muzzle blast.
i haven't noticed a decrease in the amount of deadness for the animals i've shot.

X2.
It seems as though I've come full circle with my cartridges. I started out with a 308win, moved up to a 280rem, then into the magnums. Like fish-e-o, I found the animals never died any quicker when the head stamp read 300 magnum then it did when it said 308win or 280rem. Eventually I sold off all my magnum rifles and settled on my 280ai as my "big gun", and it's killed elk out to 400yds and moose out to 500yds without a problem.

how do you like that 280AI? Next to a 6.5x55SE if I was going to have a custom rifle to build and hand down to my kids it would be the 280AI.

Love it! I have 2 and both are different set ups. Both shoot better than I can.lots of choices for loads & game. The short action is a bonus in reduction of weight but still getting.300 Win Mag performance with lots of choices for ammo factory or reloading

novelty worn off
All the WSM's are like re-inventing the wheel, doing the same job full sized better feeding cartridges have been doing for years.People always have to have the latest/ greatest. To each their own, but I'd suggest hoarding some brass.

the WSM design is actually quit good .. The 300 and 270 wsm will be around for ever. Let me guess you have a 30-06 and it's just great ... as far as re-inventing the wheel ? aren't you glad it was , because I think you may have been one to stick with the horse ...

7 wsm
The WSM space is actually quite interesting. I think it started out as a fad and I must admit I bought myself a 7 WSM. I think the 270 WSM is here to stay and I think it is true to a lessor extent of the 300 WSM. The 7 WSM was looking like it was dying but there appears to be some limited resurgence in interest in that one.
We will have to wait and see I guess!
However, it sure is hard getting brass!
