Default Sturgeon

I have not fished sturgeon in Alberta. I have caught them in the Frazer
river, and there we were not allowed to lift the fish out of the water. We could hold the fish IN the water for pictures. I thought it was to help the fish survive the trauma of being caught. The less it is handled, the better for the fish. It is for similar reasons barbless hooks should be used.

A lot of people prefer barbless hooks while sturgeon fishing so they don't get the mouth all ripped up while removing the hooks, For pictures , I just kneel by the waters edge and get a quick pic and put them back !

or I will just take an in water pic like these ones

I'm sure you will get a few responding with a different opinion on this subject. We will need facts to back up your claims before people are going to change their minds.

What are you implying?

Are you wishing to rehash a debate on barbless hooks?
Starting a debate on the trauma caused to fish due to catch and release practices?

I suspect that sturgeon handling restriction in BC was a boat rule, as it is not a BC fishing regulation.

In order to reduce the handling of sturgeon, eliminating the use of bait would be more effective than requiring barbless hooks.

The 2nd photo here is wicked. Good rule of thumb is quick photos. I always carry my iPhone on a water prove lanyard for quick photos!
