Was out hunting 2 weeks back and was told by a fish cop it is illegal to carry a hunting riffle in the bush in hunting season with out a hunting licence . Buddy wanted to carry one on a hiking trip.

Not illegal. Unless in a national park.

what a bunch of BS. Can carry a firearm anytime of year on public land. You don't have to have a hunting license unless you are actually hunting. Only legal requirement is to have a PAL. It's amazing the advice you get from some officers. Lol

I regularly carry a firearm on trapline all year. Is F & W saying it is now illegal. I guess they want to protect the grizzly bears??

You do hear some strange stories and rule intrpertations coming from some authorities. The manager at the motel we stayed in last week jad hung up some Halloween decorations. Had some ghouls hanging from the rafters. RCMP told him it is illegal to tie a "Hangmans Knot" in Canada.

Many law enforcement officials have no clue about the laws they are enforcing. There is one way I can think of where such a knot MIGHT be deemed illegal. In the southern US the noose in a tree is unfortunately a common white supremacist taunt/threat towards black people, harkening back to the days of lynchings. If someone hung such a knot in front of, for example, a black person's home, that might reasonably be deemed a hate crime. But in a halloween display? doubtful.

Only illegal if "attached" to a person.

If you have an FAC you can carry the rifle down the mainstreet in town to the gunsmiths shop to get your scope mounted. Or whatever.

Yeah, I've gotten the gears on a few occasions for heading out fishing with a rifle on my back. When I explain I'm using it for bear defense there's often some condescending remark as if bears or other wild animals have never attacked someone.

Did you get his name so you can recontact him for a chat to set him straight. I would be Calling F/G to report it. All the F/G members I have been had the pleasure to have been in contact with have been very knowlegable. You need to be sure this member knows the law.
