Not likely to see ice of any consequence till late Dec with the temps and breeze, hopefully not ,but that`s the way it`s lining up. +11 yesterday and +7 today so have a little while yet

Do the whitefish still come into the shallows to spawn despite the lack of ice? I was thinking of trying it out anyways with wireworms and a float this coming week.

I think this is the first year I have not been at McGregor for first ice in Nov. There's usually at least 2" normally along the rocks.

Lakes in Calgary are just about frozen over with 2-4 inches along the shore. Should freeze fast with colder nights.

I'm pretty sure the whitefish spawn before you get to fish the first ice. The fish are still hanging around the area for awhile after they spawn. The earlier the ice forms, the more fish that are still around. I recall a time on the north dam that most people fishing would limit out in a 1/2 hr, that was early Nov. now I find that if there is no ice until Dec. the fish are pretty much gone.
