Headed to Pigeon and got to the lake at 8:30 a.m. Setup in about 8 FOW of water. Within 30 seconds I landed my first fish - a walleye. Nice to have the skunk off early. About 5 minutes later I had a white come in and take a go at my hook but no "bitey".
Then, the walleye turned on. It was multiple walleye coming in. Managed to land...I think...4 and lost a few more.
After a 5 minutes breather some whites showed up. I had a couple of close calls but still no white. About 15 minutes later I saw a white swim by up high so I brought up my hook and to its level and let it fall. The whitey followed it down and slammed it. A good fight later and I landed a fat healthy white. YAHOO!!! Love them things.
Then it went quiet for another 15 minutes before I had another white harass my lure.
After a half hour of quiet I decided to head out deeper. I found 20 FOW which turned out to be a bit too deep. Only saw 1 walleye that I had on and lost.
I moved back in to about 9 FOW. Within a minute it was walleye time again. I believe I landed another 3 walleye. I had on a 4th walleye that I lost at the hole. I dropped back down and another fish came right in and smacked my lure. It was a huge white. After a great fight I managed to land a 3.5 lb, 20.5 inch white
. My biggest to date!
No sooner after dealing with the white and dropping down again I had a repeat. Another even bigger white came in and hit the lure. The fight was on! Sadly it only lasted about 1 minute before the white pulled off.
The day ended with another lost white, landed another walleye and lost 1 as well.
I packed up and headed out early.
I'm pretty happy with the start to this season. 5 species so far - Pike, Walleye, Perch, Burbot, White.
Here are some pics:
The 3.5 lber!
A great threesome
Cheers!
