Default West Coast fishing

The west side of Vancouver Island is seeing some great early season fishing for Chinook Salmon plus the Halibut are here!

Get out there and take advantage of the best eating salmon of the year.

Month and a half for me, can't wait! Would you say the fish are a little earlier this year with El Niņo? Normal for good Hali fishing this time of year? What's your prediction for mid May? Thanks

Nice! How far out do you have to go to get into them?

Our area of the Island gets all of the Columbia river runs, this early run starts in March but is weather dependent. It doesn't really slow down for us but gets better early June when it really goes off. We start getting the BC bound fish July thru early Sept.

Yes, the Halibut really start picking up now and peak June/July but are available thru Sept

Beauties! That's what I'm looking for right there. From what you've said I take it late May, weather and tides permitting, should be really good. The Hali bite should be almost ready to peak or maybe even full swing already. Spring is a month early here so timing might be real good on the coast too. Good luck!

Default Just wondering ...

Spam or no ?

You don't see many locals who are fishing just promote
Their area so more fisherman will show up !

And you are absolutely right .

Is there a company being promoted? I don't see any. Almost every post of his is just about current fishing conditions.

Default Someone may be right .....

I'm not saying I jumped to a conclusion, maybe a small hop .
But as you suggested I looked up TG s posts . There's an interesting thread
About west coast fishing ,where a poster refers to the OP by his first name , then
Another member indicates that the person named may be reached at
that website . So 2 & 2 = 5 ....
I don't really care , but I have had a couple of good friends spend some
Heavy coin on here as sponsors . One guy , a really good guy went out of
Business .....sadly . As a member I have a vested interest in seeing the
AO business do well . If I'm wrong ,I can live with it , but I rarely am .
But you were right ,ALMOST every post .

I sure hope you don't think this is me because it isn't.

My post was letting people know that the springer run of Chinooks on the WCVI was earlier than normal.

If fishing updates aren't welcome on this site let me know and i won't post anymore but i did assume it was a fishing forum.

Yes for Tofino's updates!!!! Yes please keep them coming.

Something people always find fault in everything.

Your update dates are very welcome, and a lot of us look forward to hearing about the conditions on the coast.

I plan to go halibut fishing in late May. Any charters recommended ? I was fishing with Bon Chovy once but they do only salmon.

Wake up and move on maybe... actually look who is a sponsor....
http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/forumdisplay.php?f=40
tofinofishing.com is a sponsor anyway.
Don't you worry about this forum succeeding, worry about your own behavior because that is the biggest issue with this forum.
I highly doubt your good buddies business went under because of non sponsors promoting on this forum.....maybe he over promised and under delivered, at least that what I heard.

To the OP thank you for the update and making it seem that much longer until I get out to the coast!

With all the cut backs/layoffs here in Alberta and the cost of fuel has gone down, perhaps some of the resorts/guides can give us a better deal than $500/day to go fishing out there. I would imagine they are going to see a dramatic drop in reservations this year. Two days of fishing is $1000 at least plus lodging and transportation to get there in an economy where many people can't afford those prices.

Just saying

No just keep posting about those big salmon. Makes us Alberta boys & girls drool until it runs off our chins. Maybe some of us are just too envious?

Look like this year is going to be the first that we don't make our annual pilgrimage out west in many years.

Good fishing and tight lines.

From the meetings this weekend. There will be a full report public soon.

DFO marine biologist report from the south coast SFAB meetings last weekend.

The Chinook run of the decade is being predicted for West Coast Vancouver Island this year. Over 250,000 returning local WCVI Chinook plus over 800,000 returning (passing by us) Fall Columbia Chinook means over 1,000,000 of these aggressively feeding salmon will be passing by the west coast this summer.

That's awesome! I will raise a glass to that as well and I will only need 2 out of that million for my freezer......just to keep the 2 Hali's I intend to catch company for a little while! Let us know how the Coho's are looking when you get some good Intel on them and also how the Hali fishing is doing! Thanks for the updates Tofinoguy!

My better half with a nice hatchery clipped Chinook caught 6 miles offshore. A few better sized ones these days to go with the nice weather
