If you have energy and the proper line, a 6wt. If not, full sink line and 8 or 9 wt.

Another take on the rabbit and marabou minnow, I did not know you had to tie the brass eyes under the hook. After tying about a dozen I thought I'd better try them in the tub... upside down, so I had to strip them all and start over.

I wonder if you could tell me what sort of bugs white fish take ? I was at gull lake a few days ago, march 22 , I was using a 10 hook yellow and red jig , what does this pattern imitate , I went home and tied up some no 12-14 red and yellow crominid type flies hope they work , is there anything in the lake that's like a crominid this time in the year I know they are there in summer . By the way you do nice fly tying .wouldnt mind seeing more of your work

White fish are in the trout family and there diet is almost identical. This time of year chronomids should work well, I'd bet a small San Juan worm would be a hit. When the ice comes off, the fishing can be fantastic, not sure if any lakes are open. Chrommies should be hot until the water gets warm enough to push them down, I've had real good luck on a small B52 in May and June, it's a caddis imitation.

To answer your question about the yellow and red, not sure it represents anything. Whitefish seem to pick up a lot of things that don't really look like anything. I've had great success with Russian Jigs and they don't look like anything I've ever seen in the water.

Thanks for the complement. I'll post more as I tie.

Default Grasshopper

This is a my new grasshopper pattern that I am trying out. I got the wings from a guy in Lethbridge that owns a decal company, he made some hopper and caddis wings that really make it a lot more simple to tie.

I tried making a Dytiscus larva, I'm hoping this works for some stillwater. I haven't seen any flies that mimic this species, but they are quite prevalent in pothole lakes... So I don't see how it wouldn't work..?

Wow that is intricate
a few sizes smaller and that would make a mean mysis pattern . Good luck with a ground breaking fly.
