I’m in. Robocalls with the mayors voice trying to get people to vote yes. All this wasted money to date. Time for him to go and take his “legacy” with him.

I don’t live in yyc. I totally understand the vote no side but saying we are just wasting tax dollars is probably very true. But don’t be fooled. You are not going to get a cheque in the mail for you saving them $$$.
I think if you can get government $ to build stuff in your city grab it with both hands. Otherwise the morons are gunna send it to Make Bombarder bail out payments!

It isnt the idea of getting a check back from the City or from the Government. It is about having them NOT take your wallet and waste your money on a party, after you've been beaten to the ground.

What "stuff" were they going to build. There wasn't a new arena in the proposal or estimates. Of the "stuff" they were going to build, if you can name any, how beneficial would it be to the city in the long term?
You do realize that a big chunk of the cost was going to security due to the times we live in. Those expenditures don't build nuthin

Vote was a foregone conclusion, the No side made many valid objections and the Yes side was poorly organized and never overcame that.

Speaking of poorly organized, there were many who would have voted ‘yes’ if we had a competent municipal/provincial/federal gov’t. Many of the votes were not cynical of the games, but were cynical of the crews currently at the helm. Calgary and Alberta are industrious go-getters and we could pull these off easily, I think the main concern was wanting levels of gov’t that would allow us to flourish in the way we should be. It’s hard to run a race when ridiculous policies have not only tied your legs together but tethered you to an anchor.

My point is now they are gunna waste it somewhere else!
My proposal is that we spend that $$ on a hi speed train to replace the fallen greyhound routes to rural towns with populations of 75 or less!

Is it a coincidence that Alberta's economy rebounded right after '88? Maybe.
O&G was (and still kind of is) an "old boys club". It could've been something as simple as a group of CEO's came to Calgary to party in '88 and decided instead of closing shop, and moving HQ out east, they decided to stay here or possibly move here. Who knows. I know one of the big reason's ALOT of people live here (including myself) is because of the proximity to the mountains, ie;lifestyle.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still voting NO (mostly because of the lack of answers), but there's no proof either way.

So you'll pay, huh? There burden of proof is in you. You sounds like every religious person ever arguing with an atheist... "Prove me that God doesn't exist! You can't, can ya?"
