As an old millennial who grew up before satellite and only CBC and a few other channels, his call will forever be etched in my brain, its a core memory for me. My dad is a Leaf fan with Bob Cole. I would stay up to watch the late game with Chris Cuthbert.
My only Bob Cole story. It was 2006, Stanley Cup Finals before game 6 outside Rexall place. I had no ticket but I had $600 dollars in my pocket, I was trying to snag a single seat to the game. But obviously that was a hot ticket. I was just doing laps around Rexall probably 90 minutes before puck drop and in my travels I see Bob Cole is just standing outside talking to fans. He was just enjoying the atmosphere shooting the s**t with the fans. I gave him the old head nod and a smile and I was off trying to find my ticket. Anyways I did not get a ticket. I rushed over to a relatives and watched the Oilers lay a beat down on Carolina that game with Bob Cole doing the play by play.
But my favourite call, 1997 against Dallas after "the save" is something I always head back to for some fond memories of a simpler time. RIP Bob.

“They’re going home “ , his best comment ever when the Broad street bullies destroyed the Soviet Red Army.

I have to say the same. No politics. No drama. Just good ole Canadian grown up fun and experiences. The man was a legend.
I've had lunch twice with Ron MacLean. About as grassroots as it gets. I wish there were a lot more of that these days, but sadly it's gone rogue.
