Yes they were in the Beaumont pond but the rainbow trout and illegally stocked crayfish ate them all....sorry.

tilapia
well I caught 5 today in a pond east of Strathmore the pond had a lot of perch this past winter and was set to get some today and all I landed was tilapia there was a bunch of other people landing them too

she is from the Philippine`S she should know if they are tilapia and she said great fresh tilapia for dinner so they are and no not from the bow river from a small pond not private...

Who is she? I thought you caught them?
Pics or it didn't happen. I say this because tilapia pretty much can't live in water under 20C.

well they look just like tilapia she said to me just a little smaller I don`t know how to post pitcures on here

If I was a betting man... I am betting she is mixing up tilapia with Prussian and Crussian Carp. Those have been illegally introduced in that area already... Do a search on them in AOF to see the past long thread.

Sound like perch.
Talapia are often called Nile Perch because of their resemblance to perch although I think they are not related. I have seen different coulours of Talapia and there is one type that has similar colours to a perch, only they get a heck of a lot bigger.

Where are you getting this info? Nile Perch is an actual species, not something referred to. Ever watch river monsters?

She misidentified them too....even though for sure they were tilapia because she was from the Philipines then she should know....
Just a tip, if you do not know 100% what it is THEN DO NOT KEEP IT!! Why on earth would you keep it? Most Alberta waters have limits on native and introduced species....I repeat if you don't know what it is let it go.
I hope you don't fish for trout or in waters that contain bull trout....

The Blue Talapia, is often called the Nile Perch. We see them a lot in Florida where they are stocked. So perhaps it is a misnomer, but it is the widley used in Florida when referring to the blue talapia. See the article below

Pretty slim chance tilapia will live in the wild in AB. Our water is too cold.

Would you eat them anyway?
There's an epsiode of "Dirty Jobs" (or something similar?) that turned me off ever eating Tilapia again. Guys raising striped bass commercially in artificial ponds in California. When they harvest them, they flush all the crap from the pond into their canal where they raise Tilapia. The Tilapia thrive on the bass crap (literally), and are harvested from the canal for commercial market. TASTY!!
They are a very warm water fish. No chance of surviving Alberta winter water temps. Even if there were a supply of bass crap for them to fatten on - Yum?
