Good Spots to hunt Rabbit near Okotoks and what riffle to use.

Hi. Since hunting season is over in about 2 weeks i was wondering if you guys know any good spots to go rabbit hunting. we have been all over the 406 and we havent seen any rabbit in at least 3 years. also i have a Winchester .22 (dont know the model, bolt-action). Would that be a good riffle to use?. Dont tell me to use a .410 becuase we like the challage of a riffle. Thank you! any help is greatly appreciated.

a .22 is fine for rabbits - try going east of Okotoks and knock on some doors - there should be jack rabbits out that way

Lots in 406, you just have to walk in a bit from the coral at the end of 1250 dr. Best time is just after a snow fall. I saw lots when I was there last week for chickens...even took a few for myself. I use a .22 LR when I don't run snares.

22l are fine for rabbits, try for a head/neck shot or high on the front shoulder. If you shoot them center mass then you will hit guts and lose quite a few of them.

Did you see at least see tracks?

Snowshoe Hares have been at a high cycle for the last few years in this area. If you are not seeing rabbits, then you need to change where or how you are looking of them.
