Default Royalty

I'm kinda curious on the view of royalty here.

In some minds it's akin to religion.

I remember telling a joke about the queen while one of her kids was sitting across from me. His guys tensed, the guys I was with sat uncomfortably, but we all laughed when I was done. We being everyone but him and his guys on the plane.

No one killed each other that day, in fact we all had beers afterwards.

I personally don't believe the crown has weight on this continent, what say you?

I'm not a fan of hereditary power structures. Especially those that were appointed to rule by some divine power.

I'm with you guys, I don't think a monarchy system has much, if any place in modern society.

Not much of a loyal subject kind of guy. Born and raised a red neck Alberta cowboy, fiercely independent.

I think that the entire idea of a monarchy is long outdated, serves no purpose, and should be done away with. The last thing that this world needs is more "entitled" people.

The biggest criminals in the world, the only reason they're rich is because they stole from the hard working class. One of the few things the french did the right way.

There is a creepy story about British royalty visiting Kamloops in 1964 with all kinds of wild speculation surrounding the visit...

I respect the Queen, more so than the vast majority of our politicians anyway, and have no issue with the Royalty.

Nominal head of our government, works, but too damned expensive for this cowboy. Family scandals kind of worked on the respect and integrity angle. Charles as King ?

Default Queen

The advantage of Queen is we have someone that could get rid of a inept Prime Minister, something the Americans lack when they get a problem like Trump that can buy their way to a Presidents job with no qualifications.

So when does this ousting take place because we have had a very inept Prime Minister for over 3 years? Hopefully this falls vote takes care of this issue...

Useless to have the Queen. Figurehead that means nothing other than a symbol. Waste of money.

Almost four years into the reign of the most inept PM at all time, and nobody has taken any action to get rid of him. We are paying for a governor general, and are still paying expenses for former governor generals, so what are we getting for our money?

The definition of Monarchy: An individual ruler who functions as the head of state and who achieves his or her position through heredity.

I think she gives a stability to the nation that an unending parade of arguing governments do not. She instils an enduring pride of country, separate from any pride, or shame, in the government of the day.

Yes I know. And I still say nobody should be born into a position of power. It should be earned through a populace decision.

Why would you purposely tell a joke about someone’s mother knowing full well they were present, also knowing full well that nothing would be done because it would be a no win situation for the son?
Pretty disrespectful in my opinion regardless of who it is

Because it's our new society...being brought up with respect and decorum are things of the past.

I recall a VVIP duty I had

I was having a sub sandwich with Ralph K on a balcony and this lovely young royal walked onto the balcony. She said “so what’s going on out here”

Ralph K being himself, holds up his sandwich and says “fine dining”!

I was asked if I “share”, so I cut my sub in half and shared.

Chick was totally normal. Husband not so much. Nice, but not the “share your sub” type.....

I feel unaffected by the Royal family. I can take it or leave it

agreed, the Queen is a fine lady, no doubt about that, but when she goes, are we going to get Charles' face on our $20 bill? a foreigner? The Queen should say: "after me, no more!" but it won't happen, there is just too much money behind it

As unusual as it is I'm OK with it in terms of them merely being informal figureheads where the real governance is by democracy. Look at it this way: society is always looking for other people to worship in one form or another, to some its sports teams or players, musicians, actors and actresses, self-help 'guru's', politicians, MMA fighters, etc. Its how social media influencers get a following. In terms of the British Monarchy I at least have some respect for the Queen, William and Harry (I'm indifferent to Charles). The young princes I think have good heads on their shoulders, I especially like that Harry is a combat veteran flying AH-64 Apache's. I know William is also a helicopter pilot but I don't know if he's served aside from piloting rescue choppers (which is still entirely respectable).

As it stands, I'm just happy that the Royal Family is some pretty alright people rather than the Kardashian's, a group of gangster rappers or the type of family that Iraq or North Korea wound up having lead them (remember the hijinx of Saddam's son's, serial rapists that they were?)

I love the historical aspects of royalty and find it facinating, but in today's day and age their really is no need of it. Nobody should be able to rule by birthright.
