I don't think I can explain it to you. I'm not very good with words. But there is a picture there with my comment to Selkirk. Hope this helps.

Before I took my hiatus I loved sharing my trip reports and the friendly and sometimes hilarious exchanges. (Anyone remember the deleted barbell piercing thread?). I deleted my photobucket account and went on with life.

I became reactivated during the fort Mac fires due to the many folks from here and wanting to post updates from my brother who was up there fighting the beast.

Now I tread lightly and want to contribute in measures doses. I’m a lot more reserved than when I left. I think I got a warning years ago when I called out a white aupremicist that was poisoning the forum. Behaved ever since! .....mostly

I had forgotten the barbell thread. thanks for the chuckle.

I always enjoyed your posts and you contributed a lot of positive stuff to AO. I know a lot of people who would agree with me, but they aren't here. Some by choice and some by chance.

I'm no liberal, but I'm getting sick and tired of the small group here who insist on pushing their political agendas in almost every thread they post on, whether it's warranted or not. See above for the latest example.

When will they give it a rest?!

Politics is a daily part of our lives. It affects everything we do. Only natural that someone would have something to say. Or I guess everyone could put their head in the sand and pretend everything is great.

Politics is one thing, especially on political threads. It's expected, and I don't have a problem with it anymore than anyone else.

It's the Political Agenda Pushers that lurk here, who insist on preaching their "gospel", even on non-political, totally unrelated threads. It's like their mind is locked in an uncontrollable do-loop.

Maybe we should feel sorry for them

I just stay out of the mudslinging threads. None of the cr@p that goes on in General Discussion is worth getting all fired up about; doesn't mean I don't frequent GD and read the political threads and so on but things go south quickly too often.

All in all, this is a great forum and I "hang my hat" here, but sometimes we all need to just turn off and get some fresh air for a change.

There are 67,537 members on this site. I suspect there may be the odd disagreement from time to time. It's all apart of being on a forum. Things get heated, people have opinions, moods change, sometimes somebody jumps in your way or cuts you off. It's just like driving. Then you run the SOB over and get a time out. All in a day's fun.

Really though, I think some people take this lovely little place a bit too seriously sometimes. Chill out, have a beer, eat some sausage, you could even smoke a big fat reefer if you want, but really when it all boils down to it this place should be for education, fun and enjoyment, nothing more. How, who, and at what level that is provided will vary immensely based on those involved in the thread. Everybody has their own way of expressing their thoughts, some better than others, but at the end of the day that's all it really was, a thought, from a dumb redneck like you and I. Should it really wreck your day?

Pretty interesting thread. The OP has a disagreement with someone on another thread and felt it necessary to post this one as a result. The member who he had the disagreement with posts on the thread and spills the beans. Meanwhile, two other members get involved in a back and forth between themselves, pretty much providing an example of what the OP was talking about, and get themselves suspended. Wow, the poor mods.

I think people need to read real close before commenting, maybe read between the lines a bit. If you type a short answer to a question without putting in every little detail you get jumped on. I don’t even think about commenting on political threads.

There is no doubt the forum has changes from the "barbell piercing" days. There use to be some good banter and debate back in the day.

But life move on and so do I. Hardly post anymore just read few interesting GD threads and then go read the fishing forum. Speaking of the fishing forum - I remember when it was the black sheep of AO. Many threads closed do to arguments

I think the membership should be able to vote one banned person back into the forum, as sign of forgiveness. Maybe we can do it on Easter or on Passover - just like the romans allowed the crowds to save the life of one heinous criminal from crucifixion.

err ..... wait ........ maybe not the best idea ......... never mind .........

So an AO thread about forum civility got uncivil.

Shocking....

I say we do it on Dec 8...immaculate conception.

"Conceived without sin". So we forget the previous sins and move on!

can we do this more?

i always end up going through post history thinking "wow they got a timeout? i wonder what for? and then i'll hear through the grapevine"

it's much easier to have the examples

It's like thanksgiving too much stuffing and not enough luv.

Mods do a good job keeping it all in order here.

The outdoor pursuits that bring us together, tend to attract bold personalities. Put them together under one roof, and there's bound to be disagreements. How we respond to these disagreements as individuals contributes to the perception of AO.

As the moderators have said, it is largely up to us as members to self moderate the content posted here. The best way to do that? Re-read your words before you post. If it's incendiary, remember that there isn't much benefit from throwing a grenade over your neighbors fence - or from receiving said grenade over your fence.

We can't all hug it out, and pretend like it's going to be better - we need to be better.

We can ignore the negative comments. Most of the trolls are just looking for someone to stir up. Remove your reaction from the equation, and the annoying behavior will decrease.

There will always be the cantankerous members who are just grumpy, and don't add much in the way of positivity. Let them resolve their own demise, don't get involved. If you read something offside, bring it to the moderators attention, and move on. Getting involved in slinging poop, just gets your hands dirty and doesn't resolve anything.

I look forward to the future of AO and will do my part by posting more outdoor related content, more often.
