Default Kid got it done, first big game animal

Well a ton of km's put on the boots since mid Sept, many close calls with a bow. Many moose from spikes to 50 inchers seen and had chances at couple big boys within a few hundred yards to one at 10 yrds on a 30 incher in sept that we let walk due to hot temps and the chance at a bigger boy.

October's bow season ended with two chances at 50 inchers in the last week but they were too far away(we are thinking one may have been this guy). Nov came and the bulls were gone, resting somewhere off the properties we hunted.

Sunday was a late start, got up a bit later than we wanted to(funny how a change can line up the gods) and we basically walked right into this guy at 8:15 am. 80 yrds, watched him make a perfect lung shot through the binos and I knew he had his first moose, moose went 20 steps into another shooting lane and the kid was already instructed to shoot again if the chance came. Nailed him in the neck and he dropped in his tracks. 19 yrs old, shot on the 19th and his first big game animal. What a fun season starting with a bow and finishing with a rifle. The smiles are still shining bright on the kid and me. You really do live through your kids. Tapes out at 54 inches

That'll do! Nice job, a love a good clean kill like that. Really nice bull, your boy did a fine job. You too.

I got that rifle as a 16th bday present. It came from a family member who hunted with it prior. I'm 50 next month, never used another rifle. It has taken a lot of game for me. I wanted my son to use his Opa's 30-06 as dad stopped hunting last year at 80 but the scope wasn't positioned right for my kids long arms so he used my rifle. I carried dads for deer. I am not gonna lie, I am more than a bit happy he took this bull with my rifle

Thanks, it was sure fun being the guide and along for the experience. And the kid really learnt the highs and lows of hunting. One week the moose are everywhere, next nope, one week you can't do anything right, blow chances, wind etc, next your falling over the little guys. Just got to keep on going and the odds should change in your favor.

And, as I did as a younger guy, he got to drive the argo in, haul his moose out to the line, then back to the truck after the work was done, just as I did with many of my dads moose back in the day

I will admit after not seeing any bulls in the first 2 weeks of Nov, any bull was now on the table and the time to wait for a bigger one was gone but thankfully he got a chance at one of them with the rifle. If it was my tag, my life long jinx would have gotten me tag soup. I told him when he drew the tag, you will have the chance to get your biggest moose there and your first too, then spend the rest of your hunting career trying to top it in crown land lol. Well he has now set a very high bar to beat this one

Been following your sons moose quest. You fellas put a lot of time in for a well earned trophy. Super happy for the boy. As I've offered to others, I volunteer to be the bartender at the sausage making party. I'll bring a vac sealer too. Oh, and I won't be needing a pack of steaks.
