Contrary to popular belief, the National Parks were not made for conservation, they were made for control of the west by the Ottawa government.
The original national parks also covered the Brazeau, Clearwater, Bow forestry areas.
The federal government wanted to control water, minerals, and timber.
Thank goodness a lot of Albertans said no way and negotiations ensued around 1911.
This is stuff not taught in our schools and it should be.
