Default GT 8 or GT 10 Garmin

Trying to decide which transducer to get for an echo map getting converted for ice fishing. GT 10 seems to be the best for deeper water but I'm not always fishing deep and if the 8 can do a decent job would rather go that route I think. Thoughts/experiences appreciated.

I haven't used the GT8, but the GT10 works great in all the depths that I've used it. Good separation at 90' on Spray and 40' on ghost. Anything less then that I just use the camera.

if you are running an echo map then I would go with the gt10 as the echomap has a higher wattage rating. The gt10 requires 500w of power out put but your target separation will be better. Also the cone angles on the gt10 are 16/8. So deeper water is this transducers shines.

The gt8 requires 250w of power and has a 24/16 cone angle. Will still work great in deep water but gives you a wider cone angle in shallow water with the 24 degrees cone. Meaning you can see when a fish is 8 to 10ft away from your bait in 25ft of water with the 24 degree setting.

Biggest reason for considering the 8 is the other units we use either run a 9/20, or a variable cone on a proview that iirc is around 9 degrees ish depending on gain. Thought it might be worth trying a bit wider angle but not if it kills the deep water performance. Have to make up my mind fairly quick so probably just end up going with the 10 to be safe.
