Protection For New Cork.
Anyone use some kinda protection on new cork? And if so what are you using and is it a one time deal or do you reapply once in awhile?

I don't, but occasionally when my cork gets dirty and darkens up I'll use warm water with a little soap in it to clean it up again.

I have two cheap fishing rods, one has a cork handle.
I researched online, u-40 cork sealant had mixed reviews.
Some noted that different types of cork would absorb the sealant differently.
Sometimes changing the feel. So i passed and went for the old tried and true method of Lanolin grease. No complaints.

Sunscreen, sweat and the tears from losing fish. I don't even clean the cork, I like the used look.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser does wonders to a dirty cork handle, makes it look like new. U-40 cork sealer is a good product, as is tried and true Polimerized Tung Oil (Tru-oil gunstock finish). I buy my tung oil from Lee Valley, you can get it in the 500ml can for $32 compared to a small (90ml) bottle of Tru-oil for $12.

Sometimes I spill a bit of Scotch on it and it works nice, but seriously I have bamboo rods that are from the 20's and 30's and the cork is just fine. There are products that are designed to catch fisherman instead of fish.

I use a little warmed beeswax on new cork.
